Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

@cc Yeah but I feel like that's WHY they are closing smaller satellite offices... They WANT those people who were previously going in to quit.

Unfortunately, my bada$$ manager - well, was until last year when they demoted managers - went to a hub in a major central TX city and they closed that down. So now she/he is full remote by force, and due to that are no longer eligible for promotion as they are remote now. She/he has a family and like most, is not going to rip their children out of their schools and friend groups to move to Austin on their own dime. Let alone do that with the layoff frenzy Dell has been in for the last 8 years...

Essentially, I think it's on purpose. They obviously can see how many employees utilize xyz building and my guess is, depending on the number of ppl along with WHO uses it, they either keep it open or shut it down.

Dell has been closing many offices since COVID, and the trend has continued this year. EMC has been especially impacted, while Dell overall has been less affected. A large number of employees are now fully remote and, for many, commuting to an office isn’t realistic, some people live as far as a six-hour drive away.

I expect more office closures this year, but I also see a clear contradiction in Dell’s approach. On one hand, the company is centralizing operations into major hubs in the U.S., reducing the need for so much office space. On the other hand, they are pushing for employees to return to the office. It’s hard to see how both goals can be achieved at the same time, it feels virtually impossible. If you’ve been working remotely because Dell closed your office, then that responsibility falls on Dell.

Personally, I prefer working from home. I find it difficult to focus in the office with so much background conversation, whereas at home I’m far more productive and have direct access to my own equipment.

Good luck to all of us who have made it at Dell into early 2026. Unfortunately, the layoffs are likely to continue.

I think they are giving remote sales folks unachievable quotas so they can put us on a PIP and then manage us out.

They are being ultra an-l about RTO employees and have made it clear they want all employees to be local to an office so, at some point Dell has to start cutting remotes... and I feel that time is sooner than later.

How can Dell expect forced RTO ppl to abide by their micromanaging when half their team is remote? My team of 13 people for example... 4 of us go into office; 2 of us go to the SAME office, while the other two live in different states.

Remotes WILL start being hit harder and harder sooner than later IMPO. OR start getting stripped of raises and/or bonus's - essentially trying to force them to quit.

Promotions and internal movement has been taken away from remotes already. Next step is to cap raises at 1.5-2% and cap bonus's to 10-20%.

I'd bet money that remotes get a far smaller raise and bonus this March than ever before... Dell WANTS remotes to quit. They WANT to force remotes out so they don't have to pay severance.

But I'm also guessing remotes will be hit harder this year than ever before considering the fact Dell is making a very obvious movement towarsd RTO and office local employees for the future...
