Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Eerie silence on job cuts….

Very little said about job cuts for the moment…but is this just the calm before the storm…the same old playbook based on cutting endlessly to boost some illusion of profitability through cutting and laying off instead of investing in the core business. Any news on lay offs?

Aren't we in the quiet period as earnings are coming up on May 2nd?

I think that the plan is like male pattern baldness. They'll start eliminating the ones in the middle, then there will be a line that slowly creeps back. Think of it like two scenarios:

  1. a traitor among us and 2) the front line slowly falls.

perhaps the most annoying thing about the butt kissers and our leaders is how they take over a year to finish a mass firing then go “other companies would kick you out with security escort on friday”, we have empathy.

as if there isn’t a happy middle ground and both extremes aren’t miserable

SPEED was also supposed to be Nov 2025, postponed to Mar 2026. They should have also changed the name to something less ambitious. I can't understand how a reoorg can take more than 1.5 years to plan and execute. No wonder our projects are always delayed...

I don't think layoffs will be organization wide. It'll be targeted based on what they said at Capital Markets Day. Organization wide reductions only happen every few years.

While working at Shell I remember after layoffs were announced to our team several of us were informally standing in an office talking about it and who might be affected. Our manager stopped by, heard us and told us “you need to shut up and get back to work”. True.

agreed. OP is a huge @$$hole for vague posting about new layoffs without a source or being able to name a team or dept or facility or anything

why do some find it funny to make others walk around in a doom state?

my advice to treat OP as a liar since they act like one and move along with the day as normal

How does a company’s leadership expect to get top notch commitment and initiative from staff who are under the constant threat of redundancy? Fear can be a motivator but unrelenting fear is debilitating.

You can be sure of Shell and the one thing you can most sure of is a redundancy every couple of years.

You can trust Shell to have a redundancy round every 3 years. Wael is just waiting for the next external reason and oil price drop to justify it. If sanctions get lifted on Russia then that might not be too far away.

Give it a 12-18 months. It will come just as soon as you start to forget and feel safe.
