Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Why didn't these towns ever have a BB&B store??

I know corporations cannot necessarily come and open a store in every town. There is money and resources they have to utilize properly. But I am wondering, Why didn't they ever open stores in La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Menomonee Falls in Wisconsin, and Charleston and Huntington in West Virginia. They are in the 100000 to 300000 population area. I didn't see any mention of them having a store there a few years ago that they closed. Were those areas too poor or have low college attainment numbers to justify a store there?? Just curious??

My guess is that each of these markets had an underperforming (or at least low volume) Linens N Things circa 15 years ago.

I spent a great deal of time in La Habra and have no idea how much of their business came from, say, Whittier College or even UC Fullerton.

Good luck to you: my AA was in 79 and honestly that Juco was better than a later state school. Completed the bachelors at a private college. I kinda reckoned you did not work in a BBBY. They truly pushed the college thing, and I was just sort of addressing the wonderful trolls on here from MAGA, of which there are a few, in terms of Education being the downfall. What education does for you primarily is teach you how to be curious and investigate, so kudos to you for asking, There were many people with degrees at 53. Many used 53 as part time as well. I did.,

I actually don't work at Bed Bath and Beyond. I am actually working on completing my AA degree for college. I just love researching businesses and fascinated about geography.

Thanks for the help. Think the point has been made. Some of us were like a tourist trap: we may or may not have liked the customers, but the old BBBY raked in bucks from college bound kids. I used to have your old DM in VH as my manager.

1003 Vernon Hills Illinois did huge numbers on back to college. Be it pack & holds or students taking the merchandise with them to the school. We’d hold after hours special shopping nights after we closed on Sunday’s and rake in the sales. That was before Black Thursday in 2018, after that back to college events & sales went bye bye. The capital investment firms have done a real bang up job of directing BBBY to the bankruptcy court.

Pop 40,486. Had a customer from Maple Park at 53 once and had to call there. At any rate, gone with the prairie winds. Most of the NIU student body comes from the burbs and brought their items with them. Only 60 miles away at most.

By the way, you know Eau Claire is home to UW Eau Claire, right? Not every single college town store made a ton of money, and it was Pack and Ship, wasn't it? I can tell you 53 did not and it only really had pickups for North Central and Wheaton College. But what 53 made money on were kids going elsewhere, as the store got credit for shipping to Illinois, the Ivy League (Ithaca and Cornell) and practically all other Big Ten schools. BBBY dumping locations such as Ann Arbor and Ithaca tells me they are giving up, period. We were always led to believe the only business slightly less important than wedding registries were college registries. Back in the day these were not kept on apps and were chaperoned like the wedding ones. BBBY did not want to work that hard on the wedding or college events, and I worked the wedding one twice, with about 120 couples and consultants from 20 stores at 53.

Tell you what, it is obvious you are paranoid about not graduating college and therefore po Ed at the ones who have. The simple fact is Bbby made more money out of pick and ship than you think. And many towns were as small as DeKalb, IL, where there was a Bloodbath at one time. Sad for you that this place used to make a ton of money out of educated kids with educated parents. I'm really sorry you suffer so much. It is more likely you have never worked a BBBY yourself.
