Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

Rate of self-elected departures....

Hearing about more and more self-elected departures of people across the company and from all different levels. Also hearing that most of them are not being backfilled. At this rate, there will be no need for more layoffs. Either way, you really have to start questioning the logic for staying. Thinking it's got to be one of the following and that you are not one of the people that is now having to do the job of like 3 people; 1. You are in a position that somehow still doesn't need you to do much work...so it's cushy and why give that up before you have to, 2. you are about to wind down your career and just want a package on your way out...3. you are confident you can find something else quickly and just want a package to pocket. ...or 4. you somehow still believe it is going to turn around. Any other reasons?

let's work on bringing everyone up to the level we want to be at

You go right ahead. As for the rest of us, this place gets what it gives.

Every organization has its problems. It's really about positioning yourself to that you benefit from your job as much as it benefits from your work. If you don't correct your work style and view, you find similar problems wherever you go because you continue to find one-way working relationships. If you aren't capable of that, I can see why you want to leave. For those who leave, good luck, but for those who stay, let's work on bringing everyone up to the level we want to be at.

Good Luck

If you sign the papers, you get whatever they offered, yes. I don't think you'll find anyone to say otherwise.

Well, I'd like somone from the last round to pipe in here.

Did anyone not get severance that was willing to sign the exit papers?

"Remember, Sungard does not have to pay out a package for letting you go. It’s a gesture so you can’t take them to court. "
Different laws in the UK. Employees are entitled to statutory redundancy pay which is limited but if you're on the verge of retirement then it's a nice little nest egg if you've done 15-20 years hard labour.

Exactly! AND, if you haven't been there for 10+ years, it isn't even worth it. At least, it wasn't, to me. I told them to keep their money. I wasn't giving up all the rights you have to forfeit to accept it. Also, those who hang on until the bitter end may have a sad surprise coming at the end of it all.

Let me tell any of you optimists about this company… this place is going down the drain and has been since 2006 when RS started falling off the hotsite cliff. If you stay.. dig in like a tick and ride this thing out until they dissolve all assets. If you are staying b/c you are optimistic about the future.. then you are delusional.

Not sure why people are staying when the job market is in high demand? Most companies are offering comp packages that dwarf what Sungard is providing. My new job pays 2.5x what Sungard is providing.

The old regime and new regime all say the same thing “we are righting the ship to better the company” for the past 10 years. The rif in November should’ve put things into perspective for the entire organization. The owners are taking profits, selling profitable assets and cutting the bad parts of the company to save on losses.

Remember, Sungard does not have to pay out a package for letting you go. It’s a gesture so you can’t take them to court. If you truly believe you’re going to get a package during the next layoff, think again.

For me, it's now bullets 2/3. I was always planning to leave in 2025 but with the current leadership team making awful decisions, I have decided to start looking and plan to move on by summer 2022. I can't chance sitting around being deskilled.

TheLastPE, fair point...but then again I didn't say I was questioning the logic for myself....was questioning why others are staying. Already punched my ticket....but I still hear from people who haven't yet.

If you are just now questioning the logic of staying, I would question whether you actually have any logic.
