Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

some phase1 employees are allowed to work remote permanently

just heard from my coworker in another department (p+/VH's org)

Wtf? Yes, they're all located in Los Angeles. Not hybrid, fully remote for anyone that starts their shift after 3pm.

@fv - sorry to hear. I assume you're an essential on-site person? otherwise I would hope they'd grant you an exemption.

@c9 tell me about it. i'm a 2nd shifter and the office i work in is in a "smart" building that heats the room according to heat detection. after everyone leaves and i'm alone, the temp drops dramatically and i'm freezing during my shift.

@cs I dunno, maybe a hub where you’re not posting on a board in the middle of the day

@cd
I'm remote at the Starbucks at the opposite corner from the CBS broadcast center, but I live in hells kitchen anyway - last thing I want to do is be seen walking into that building and dealing with that toxic culture

@ca
Sounds like a news photographer I worked with at cbs back in NYC
Slept face down dead drunk in the crew lounge day after day and nobody does anything..he had history of dr-g abuse. But everybody had to pick up the slack because they are union riff raff. Lots of drunks there driving expensive news vans on the job. At least outside ny they just smoke weed

@cm - define a "real job." or is that just like corporate boomer speak for walking 5 miles uphill to school both ways in snow without shoes on?

Or is a "real job" being employed for a company that has had:

  • constant layoffs
  • never-ending uncertainty
  • rising heath care premiums
  • limited raises
  • elevated title and responsibility changes that don't provide a salary boost
  • a toxic culture in most departments that has been a direct result of constant layoffs and anxiety
  • a 5-year hybrid model that has been the only bright spot for most employees, financially and otherwise. It's easy to accept the lack of pay if you don't have the cost of commuting, child care and so on. Now? ..............

We have been through the wringer for years at this point, more than any other company.

"Hey! This person has sh---y hours AND is working when I'm dozing off on the couch watching a movie at night!! GET THAT BAST*ARD INTO THE OFFICE WHERE HE BELONGS! All alone! with just the cleaning crew!!!"

some of you are losing it, I swear

yeah and that....actually makes sense. if you work unusual/off hours, there is no collaboration happening if you're the only one the office..........

Some phase 2 employees will be allowed to stay remote permanently too. I will be one of them. Now let’s see how well “adults” in the audience will be able to take it.

Good for them. The whole back to office idea is stupid. I sat on a call yesterday with streaming leadership and everyone was on Zoom. They are mostly located at different locations and even the ones in the same office were on zoom. How ironic.
