Thread regarding Optum layoffs

RTO - day 147

In the office alone again — just me, my badge, and the hum of lights that definitely don’t need to be on.
If I miss a day, I get put on “a list,” so I’m hanging on like a badge clip that’s one tug from snapping.

Meanwhile, the remote “leader” who is well within the RTO distance — but somehow got reclassified as remote — will probably need to set up a Teams meeting to talk to me about the importance of in‑office collaboration.
Peak corporate irony.

And the highlight of the month: after six months of coming in four days a week, I finally had my first in‑person meeting.
Pretty sure someone got forced to schedule it.

At this point, I’m basically the last survivor wandering an empty office park, trying not to end up on a list. But don’t worry leadership is listening, if we are lucky maybe some are thinking as well. 🙏

Have a great weekend and remember the holiday doesn’t count as a swipe next week.

I need to get back to work since I was asked to hire more remote workers for my team, who will never come in this office.

@wc Yup, and many people in the twin cities area have connections at other locally-based companies. We talk. They know to avoid Optum in their job searches.

No one is coming in on my floor anymore at Optum HQ. I guess YMMV, but at least on this floor no one is being fired for refusing to drive in. The company is hoping people have your fear that they will be terminated.

The reality is that they cannot get people to accept the jobs at our current low wages who have the qualifications. A year ago they hired nationally and could have people in Omaha, Wichita, or Appalachia taking these jobs. Today they are hiring within 10 miles of Eden Prairie, MN, a third ring suburb of a tertiary market. Much, much, much smaller pool.

@st Sounds like they are just wanting you to slip up on attendance so they can let you go "for cause" or waiting for you to get sick of going into the office and quit. Neither would surprise me

@c8 is this true for those of us who report to indian offshore mgrs? i'm the sole survivor on my team in my state. i have to go into the office even though i didn't prior to covid under onshore leadership. my mgr pulls a monthly report to track my days.

I played the RTO game for about 4 months. As I predicted way back in October, I never saw anyone else from my own team or anyone from the many teams that we supported. The only advantage to playing along is that when I got RIF'd in February I got severance.

Our leaders told us this week we can work from home until gas prices come down. It's not betting widely communicated but they're going to allow it during the summer and ramp back up in fall.

Being forced to RTO while the rest of my team is remote as well. Completely a waste of time, money, and productivity. It should be at the managers discretion if someone needs to be in office or not. We have too many remote workers to force some without even managers in the office

The sad thing is it will probably be you as the only person in office who is let go 5/28 and they will keep the remote staff. That happend on my team. Someone was forced to go into office and they were the person cut.

I was treated like that when I was 17. What you accept you most certainly can expect

Wow, I have met my twin. I only have a remote team, and I have to come in to an empty office as well.
