Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Cuts yesterday

A bunch of cuts happened yesterday in Dallas. I’m aware of atleast 12 that I know of. All tech. More than 12 impacted, but that’s in my circle of gossip.

@sz we lost a long tenured excellent colleague last year and nobody knows why either. This is the way.

Star developer must be political wrong! Spend too much time developing but less licking boots to bosses. Or became elegant since he/ she knows he/ she is a star and embarrassed bosses somehow. Or simply outshine the higher! I experience all these in Citi! But I eventually got smarter and made bosses stars. I kept my job for being invisible! So overall Citi bosses make stars whoever they want and hate self made stars!

One of the star developers on our team in Dallas was let go, and none of us knows why. We're all completely in the dark about the reason.

Problem is collateral damage. If you’re good and seeing others with connections getting cut, you consider abandoning ship before you get the ax. Many of the best people (not that there are much here) tend to be the ones thinking of all of the possible outcomes and are looking. Better people tend to be paranoid. I saw a few smart people leave earlier this year. The wouldn’t have gotten cut but weren’t going to chance it. Especially in a place like Citi where connections matter. Look at the nitwits TR hired. Protected class. They get to telecommute from PA while you have to drive in from the town over. When management says thousands, even the good can get swept up in those numbers.

@b1 Ad Trim Ryan points out in his weekly parody posts, Lofthouse is taking the scissors to senior MD's who only form a layer in Tech contributing nothing much. Good approach. Alison Smulewizh (sp?) is gone..who would have thought she would be let go. Nonetheless, gone and good riddance. Useless

Yeah. Senior management pushes AI all the time. IN every meeting no matter how big or small. We are soooo very behind in AI but they make it seem like we are doing cutting edge stuff. Which shows how little they know about it all. Additionally, a lot of developers that I know are in denial about AI taking things over. That's what management wants the minions to believe. They want people to continue to develop for AI initiatives that will cause them to lose their jobs in a couple of years (or less).

You can already go on your own and use these AI subscription sites. You can ask AI to build you whatever (front and backend). It's not fake news. So many different industries are being replaced. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini what you can do to stay relevant if you are in tech or other areas impacted by AI. I'd rather be prepared than blindsided.

Interesting. All Sr management talks about is Tech and AI. And all the recent cuts have been tech.
