@193 when you accept the ONLY thing the ELT cares about is stock price and dividends, the more you'll be able to cope/find a new path.
The beat kicking off with that “award” was pretty dystopian. I can’t take the gaslighting anymore. I used to mostly ignore the upper parts of the company, but I’ve become really frustrated with how things are getting rammed into the ground. All the while ELT is informing everyone at how successful the company is financially. And no one is getting merit rewards or anything.
They used to roll out the folks who make these lists every now and again on company meetings...it was embarrassing...all these lists are "pay for play" lists...they mean nothing.
No especially with all the constant cuts, which makes it extremely toxic and political. Almost cannot trust anyone there.
@cx What you describe is exactly Cisco (although I'm not sure about the midnight email). But everything else is dead on, especially the age thing.

Its not. Cisco was never a top place to work. I work in PR. Can't believe you people still haven't figured out these are all bribed awards (buy ads on their platforms, get an award). And cisco also pushes all marketing and pr folks to vote repeatedly (like 100s of times) in these contest so that cisco looks good.
Its all fake. That's why almost every company displays "Voted Best Place to Work" banners on their websites. And cisco is the biggest faker of all. But at least I get paid to do it :) do you? lol.

I experienced both the good and bad at Cisco and as an earlier post, I mentioned it comes down to your leader. I had some amazing leaders who gave me opportunities to grow and created a great culture. Then I had some others who were extreme micromanager s, who made it miserable to be. The challenge now is more of the constant worry about LR. I don’t, however, buy into these top companies to work for as many are paid for as are the executive awards too
@cv I think this is a pretty common theme you'll find in any job. Managers really do make a difference in your day-to-day. Their managers and the folks above them, though, can often make the overall trajectory of your job and career a nightmare.
Honestly, compared to google, Microsoft, meta, and IBM, Cisco is absolutely qualified to be a good employer. If Google fire you, they will just send you a email in the midnight, and Microsoft may not give any severance package, and blame you are lower performer. IBM fire employees just based on your age.
I have a lot of complaints about Cisco, but honestly having a good manager has made or break my experience here. Time off whenever, emergencies, never told no. And we work in a busy department.
This is true. Cisco gets a ton of boomerangs.

There is one category that Cisco is truly #1 - a place to end your career
If you are truly about to stop working, its totally worth it to try to get a job at Cisco; you will get paid and get health insurance and likely won't even have to put in a full hour of work in a day. Who cares about the impact on your resume? You've already decided to stop working after this anyway. At least 20% of folks I interact with are in this category including me.
If you are early or mid-career, you are sc--wed though because Cisco on your resume is a career-ending taint. Not impossible to recover from, but needlessly difficult...and most of your time at Cisco will be in service to people like me who are just grifting.
To be fair, the work-life balance is quite good at Cisco. There are many very clueless people here and just as many lousy micro managers, but if you work smart then you can enjoy good slices of time away from work. Look at how many people return to Cisco after doing time at AWS, Google and others.

Been with the company several years, has me laughing each year - especially the last 3 years. Everyone around me is completely miserable and would jump ship tomorrow if they had options. I honestly have no idea who enjoys being with the company
Because Cisco spends a lot of money on PR/Comms vs developing products.
Because we are in indeed the best... several Amazon/Microsoft/Google/ Meta employees are not depression and anxiety medicines
