Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Most of the institutional knowledge is gone

Do they really think AI can make up for that? Are they really that stupid? (that's a rhetorical question)

You will see Verizon is acting more like a midsize company. They are offloading all in-house infrastructure to third party cloud providers who can be the supporting team.

VCP is going away in favor of AWS. Dan saw how many principal and distinguished individual contributors were costing the company $250k+ in total compensation and said NO ENGINEER needs to be making that at a TELEPHONE COMPANY.

I don’t know what part of the business you’re in but from what I’ve seen no one’s doing rocket science here. It can be figured out.

Thousands of years of experience and expertise is gone in 2026 let alone what happened last year. The sad thing is the strain and stress it puts on the remaining people. It’s also that it’s going to become a recurring feature that things will break and it won’t even be picked up until a lot of damage occurs. There is no way all that knowledge was captured before staff were riffed

I dont think they Care, most of the Executives will just pillage and plunder during their brief tenure and then move on to the next shipwreck.
