Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Where do ideas like the elimination of NRE originate?

Where do ideas like the elimination of NRE and more aggressive firing of employees placed in NSI originate from? What is the “problem” that they think they are solving with these changes? The only clear explanation is a desire to reduce the number of US employees without having to perform a layoff. I would like to know who was told to find a way to cut more employees and proposed this as the solution.

Easy answer: McKinsey.

@c4 usually NSIs will be notified late July into August. Depending on age you’ll have up to 2 weeks to decide if you want to try the PIP or just take the PIL. PIP starts as soon as your supv/mgr gets it into the system after you decide, last for 90 days. Good luck, you’ll probably need it.

@OP It comes from jealousy.
The old guard retired and pulled the ladder up behind them. The new guard looks at the few people still in that narrow window and resents the those few have some semblance of peace and stability. They can’t stand it, and it bothers them deeply. It’s like they can’t tolerate the idea of someone being close to the finish line having any sense of ease or dignity. So instead of respecting it, they try to take it away, strip the protection, increase the pressure, and destroy their life.
It’s unnecessary, and it feels cruel.
But honestly, it’s out of our hands now. What's done is done. I try not to worry because I’ve been around long enough to see how divine justice works. People reap what they sow. Just be patient and wait for the next Mercury retrograde. You will see.

Do people get pip and dpc in the same year? I’m trying to understand the process to see what I’m up against before my layoff (hc10 layoff impacted last year). From the email it said full pip instead of dpc, so I’m not sure what it means and I don’t trust my supervisor or manager have my interest at heart. What month does pip start?

DPC was documented performance counseling. I was put on it last year and then piped out. They changed the terms last year by stating if you did not improve enough you could be piped, or terminated as texas is an at will state. Many years ago exxon would not pip or fire employees in the safe zone of 52 years of age and 12 years service. I knew an employee who did not deserve NSI and refused to participate in the DPC. He was left alone for a few years and piped at 55 years of age. The judge of the improvement was my supervisor and manager who knocked me down at every opportunity. Be afraid very afraid. You are all year to year contractors because all it takes is a boss who does not like you and you are done. Even a bad rumor or gossip about you can get you NSIed.

I was piped after the dpc and left. I was 752 days away from retirement. Exxon really su-ks for doing this. I lost about 100k from my lump sum and my medical. In was just two years away and they would not let me succeed. My pip was worse than my dpc and impossible to complete. The supervisor and manager were out to get me to quit. They kept asking me if I wanted to leave and take the pil. They told me no one like me and it was best if I left on my own. I watched as others did nothing and stayed protected. Now I am fighting alight to get my lump sum and be done with exxon. If I knew I was going to fail the dpc and pip I would have just left in August instead of suffering and playing their sick game. I believed their lies about the dpc and pip is to improve my performance. They told me it was to help me succeed at exxon and become a better employee. PIP equals firing and if you are start looking for a new job.
