Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Proud to work at Intel

Remember when people used to be proud to work at Intel? It was THE place to get a job, especially for young engineers. I haven’t heard anyone say that in a long time. It feels like we’ve all soured on this place. Now, more than anything, we’re just embarrassed to work here.

People who joined Intel during the 90's have told me awesome stories. There was soo much going on and the company was growing. Stock was up and everyone was happy. But after the dot-com bubble burst, that's when everything changed and it slowly started to change (not for the better).

Most folks I talked to who joined in the 90's decided to leave this last round of CPM (2024). One said that the changes that were implemented company wide in August was no longer the Intel they knew, so they decided to leave (VSP or ERP).

I am glad that I am no longer there (ISP), it was fun while it lasted.

@gh valid point and it holds for religion.

Why do people keep worshipping some stooge named Jesus when the world keeps getting worse?

Hello - maybe HE’S the problem. Let’s try this experiment without any bearded sky fa----s.

@dj

I’ve seen a few of these posts mentioning the retirees work. (Maybe yours?) And I got to admit you have a point. I do not know why people with 25 + years here are be so lauded. The company and technology and product are in the dumpster. What did they really do or achieve that warrants such a positive response? It’s a bit harsh but yes their careers and life’s work amounts to failure.

quality of people joining Intel also changed.
20 year back, only selected few can join Intel that is why we are proud of. After that average engineer join Intel at best. So it does not make sense to get pride.

I’ll attest to that. Jesus has taken me right on down to pound town a time or maybe even twenty-six.

@ch Jesus throws down funky dunks on souls bro. Think rockin’ the baby to sleep like Dr. J, but in sandals, mane flowing, and from the free throw line. With authority, every time. He’s a real human hater.

@cg Look out for Jesus, too! He’ll pump and dump ya like an Argentinian president (see: Libra), and then light ya on fire forever for not smiling with gratitude at having been created for privilege of those and similar learning experiences in life. Good to be That Dude. Guess I get it. Most of us humans would get carried away if in the same spot..

I was very proud of my work at Intel for 20 years, until I was back stabbed and knocked down by the latest managers. These managers from the last re-org are so bad that they permanently put a damage on my career and my belief in the company. It was a horrible experience working with the dishonest managers.

These Indias believe in their God, but why their God did not turn them into good citizens?

I remember the sense of pride when I first signed on with Intel. It was the largest step up in career I'd ever taken, and I couldn't wait to share the news. People would give me that "wow, you've really made it!" look when I'd tell them. Decades of no accountability from leadership, emphasizing race & s-x over merit, focusing on things that don't matter to the bottom line, and blaming the company's failures on the rank & file, and here we are. We're almost embarrassed to admit where we work.

Same. I was dumped in the layoffs this fall. Now that I am out and recovering from the PTSD of almost 30 years working there, I just feel sad and angry. Sad for what the company once was under Andy and how the culture and innovation really crashed under BK, then of course the worst CEO ever, Pat. Angry about how it became a bunch of arrogant (mostly male) engineering managers not caring for anything except their path to PE, fellow or VP.

I wish I was just ashamed. That would mean my career isn’t fu---d. Now I’m ashamed and fu---d.

I remember, but then I'm old. I realized the place had gone to hhell wwhen i left the Broxton project in 2014 and retired. Broxton was the worst thing I ever saw in my 20+ yrs there, by far. It was the pathetically doomed and unmanaged 'consolation prize' left to OR as Haifa took all of the x86 design. Every Intel move since was down hill. But I worked on Pentium Pro systems in the 90s and that was an absolute gas.
