Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Teradata is hiring out of San Diego

Everyone else is in a hiring freeze but the engineering group in Rancho Bernardo is seriously picking up with more than 22+ open positions open. Everyone keeps dooming on this place but I only see growth

Ship all the roles across the border to Mexico. There's a reason why teradata remains so close to the border

@d3 Oh gee, I feel so incredibly bad now. How will I ever sleep?

We are wishing each other card board box living on Thanksgiving eve? Not that you cannot, but should you? This person who keeps boasting eight years tenure, cannot be let go. There is merit to the claim. Happy Holidays, with or without Teradata on your resume.

@cz Be sure to let us know when you are sitting out on the curb with your cardboard box. We’ll be happy to say we told you so. Performance doesn’t matter in the end. You can be excellent at a product line that is discontinued.

@cs is eight years not a long time to be with this organization? I've supported numerous different product lines and have had numerous managers. People Managers here keep the people who're doing their jobs and those who aren't are promptly shown the door like it should be in any organization.

@c3 It’s obvious you haven’t been around TD long. Performance doesn’t have much to do with the layoffs at TD. If you have been around a long time, make a larger salary or part of a department undergoing restructuring then you’re a target. Part of TD’s problem is that so much knowledge has gone out the door over the years from the layoffs of hardworking, knowledgeable and seasoned professionals. I too used to have the same naive beliefs that you have, but after you have been around awhile you see through the dog and pony show.

There is always hiring for engineers or at least job postings. Doesn't mean the roles are being filled.

If they are filled, they are typically filling roles of those who were let go that were in higher paid tiers, allowing lower paid talent in the USA

This isn't new btw... we have been doing this for over a decade...

@c3 As usual, your take on things is skewed by whose posterior you are kissing at the moment. Don’t be cocky…you could be gone soon too.

@c3 Super engineer is back in the building. When you are impacted by restructuring, please let us know if you have any friends left. Doubtful.

Yeah, there are hundreds of houses for sale in my county. That is irrelevant until they sell.

@be Were your friends doing their jobs? I highly doubt that they were doing excellent work if they had to be backfilled. Layoffs out of San Diego have been at a minimum this year so your colleagues must have seriously been struggling, sounds like you need better friends.

You see nothing but growth? Thanks for the chuckle...I guess the company cutting headcount from 10k to 5k over the last 5 years is just my imagination. The ship is sinking dude...

Open positions mean nothing. Let us know when all 22 are actually in place.

@OP unfortunately those are jobs that are going to be laid off in the near future if TD continues the tradition. I saw several of my friends jobs posted earlier this year and tipped them off, but unfortunately they were laid off before they found a job.
