How are we supposed to work and focus with constant layoffs?

@cr think your wish can be granted. Shell is on a mini cycle and the market has not yet reacted or understood its significance. The last few years has seen the company double down on operated assets by purchasing additional working interest. This is a fools errand given that risk and eventual decommissioning will be borne by Shell. Start being intentional and think about where those gaps and inequities lie. Share them with others…have patience your efforts will be rewarded by 2026. That’s when that mini cycle ends and leadership maybe compelled and even coerced to simplify and improve.

We aren’t! They want us to quit.

Recently left the company - so refreshing! Can breath again! Was crushed by politics, lack of inspiring mission, status-quo people, and death by a 1000 processes. Yehaa!

Layoff.com deleted my post on this thread about the networking and feminist class's corrosive effect on Shell. Free speech is under attack in America! Deleting the post won't make the problem go away. Shell will continue to see layoffs because of underperformance.

it’s gone because they have fired all of those people. a “long term” employee is now 5-7 years

blame the LT, not the people

You are paid that much to swallow LT cr-p and keep yourself and others busy. If Shell would pay under market rate, would you still work there? Think about it.

IT staff is most expensive and nothing more then a commodity. Digital Twin ServiceNow and AI can be done 10 times better and cheaper than staff more busy with politics and their next promotion then bottom line value.

IDT as enabler for more business value will never happen when it is run out of India. Proof me wrong.

pride in work is dead but the people didn’t ki-l it. the LT did. they LITERALLY say we don’t innovate. is the new slogan. we buy vendor solutions. be proud of what? in IDT it’s like i’m stuck in a time loop of doing the same work over and over while some clueless leader says “reuse over reinvent” but i have no ability to reuse because the platforms to do so cost more than free or is need a charge code for a few weeks to be able to reuse something forever

i’ve never had a line manager for more than one year out of seven. it’s all reshape. it’s been two years - we can no longer blame Jay. this company has no idea what it’s doing with IT

Super sad to see how a polarising leader in a country where many on this forum come from now transcending directly to conduct in this forum - its now been made of to speak your mind is the sense I get. Maybe better your true feelings are out in the open, but it’s disappointing to see. The people are what made Shell special - but judging by the racists, homophobic and other comments on here, this thankfully doesn’t represent the majority of Shell people I know. I hope what is on this anonymous board is only from a few upset folks!

Nearly all HR complaints come from India. They are always feeling wronged. I’m very careful around them. The power they yield is amazing

I have seen IT indian letter categories and jg1's just a year in Shell, partying at Lila Palace and fancy trips to Chennai and other hubs. Bringing in all their service company friends proving a relaxing job.

Most of them took certificates and maternity leaves and left. Others are still around grinding as much as they can.

I do not blame them (Indians), this is what Shell leadership in NL and UK have put in place. I hope karma will get them sooner or later.

Look at the Shell stock at Amsterdam, bloody disaster for years, cant wait to sell it before it crashes down.

I know several people who worked their entire 30+/- year careers at Shell Oil, most recruited out of university. To a person, they’ve expressed a real sense of pride in the company and what they saw as their contribution over the years. Appears that sense of pride, which is key to one’s personal motivation and happiness on the job, is long gone. Hence, all these negative comments. What a shame.

I dont know about salaries in India, but for sure there is a lot more opportunity there. US companies don't hire entry level anymore. Then when they hire mid level, there is not career ladder. Or career ladder is only for top achieving people.

india is getting retention bonuses in the mail and average double digit annual raises and has a much better job market

you don’t know what you’re talking about. it’s also the future of this company and this industry - leading in promotions. check the news headlines and you’ll see that every integrated major is either expanding or building out hubs in india

they’re infinitely better off. get real.

The amount of hatred this forum has for Indians is mind boggling. Little do the Shell USA folks know that all centres across India are facing the same difficulties, uncertainties, reduced paychecks and job cuts as in the USA!

indigenous staff?

sir i think you mean indian staff. all the people here saying UK NL have life on easy mode need to update their bearings

this is now an indian tech support company run as cheaply as possible with visa abuse. indian employees are on autopilot easy mode

Wall Street is doing this to most western country companies. The share price is important above all and they have aligned people's retirement hopes (401k) to this view.

Long ago, Shell Oil Company was effectively an autonomous operation where employees could expect almost tenured roles with interesting and rewarding career paths.
Today, Shell USA is just another operating company with an indigenous staff that the Empire has little interest in grooming and promoting. Worker bees all - and that’s called “progress”.

Shell is a British company, career acceleration has always been greater if you are in London or The Hague than the US.

Yes, you are expected to work through constant layoffs. The problem with Shell and the United States generally has been they looked out for the networking and feminist class instead of what was best for the business and country long term. The chickens have come home to roost.
