@fb I always thought that the only package worth taking was ERP, and of course only take it when ready to retire anyway. A lot of people put off retirement till they could get an ERP.

Otherwise, the ISP or VSP are just about enough to support a person till they can start a new job, and that often included the need to move.

That is not some great thing, and now it appears that VSP is gone as well as ERP, so the whole discussion of packages seems silly to me. It's like delving into the minutia of unemployment compensation, because that is all that it really is.

If a person has found another job that they think will be better in some way then they should take that. ISP should not factor into that decision.

Had I taken the VSP (wasn't quite ERP eligible) and left in November of last year, my weeks-pay awarded would have taken me through August of this year (3 weeks from now). Instead, I took the risk and stayed in a job I enjoy, received my full paychecks, and have not had to stress out over job hunting in a tough job market. I am financially prepared in case of an ISP (everything paid off but the house, emergency fund). I also continued maximum contributions to my 401K and HSA over that time and made some nice buys during the "Liberation Day Dip". I know some people who left that got better jobs, some scrambled and took a job they hate, and some are still unemployed. As bad as things have been at Intel, I decided it was best to hang in there until they make me leave.

Even if I get cut in Sept-Dec, I've already broken even relative to last year's package and this "should've taken the package" no longer applies to me and a whole lot of other current employees.

Finance person here, who took a chance of accepting VSP last year with no job to go to because I was convinced it was the last time severence would be offered. Yes, I was not working for ~9 months before starting a new role this week, but I've never regretted raising my hand after 20 years. Everything I've heard about this recent round has been beyond gut-wrenching.

@OP Probably the most catchy phrase I've come up with, although 'Fire Those Guys, Fire Them Not Me' has a nice ring to it.

Still working on a 'hose bee lion' derivative.
