Thread regarding 3M layoffs

BB sc--wed up his RTO move

We all know that 3M isn't actually prepared for RTO. Because we're not actually going back into the office.

The RTO announcement is to encourage people to quit. Bill hates the idea of paying severance when he can just make your job so unspeaking that you leave voluntarily.

Except right now the jobs market is fairly weak, so there are no jobs to move to. Meaning nobody is going to quit.

Another lackluster idea from BB.

Billy boy waited too long, and now he won't get his wish.

Omfg, whoever is in charge of employee-relations at 3m needs to be fired. The week after they sent the mandatory return to office announcement, they sent out the workplace violence training. "Hey Employees! You must be here! And while you're here, you might get shot!"

@dj

Only problem is everyone above me in my report-to structure is located in another country, so who is going to see me to "reward" me for my presence? The only way they'll even know I'm there would be me showing up on a badge-swipe report somewhere.

What they will see, though, is that I'll be offline on Teams while travelling to the office, when I normally would have been available, so from their perspective, I'll be less present than I was before.

Yeah, I'm sure this will be great for my career.

I thought this was the big move to cut the fat? Encourage anyone who is already eligible to retire su-king on the pension plan that lasts until 2028 to get out now. Saves the pension a few extra years of growth, they all have the biggest salaries. How many are still hanging on that could have retired 5-7 years ago.

Presence = productivity, all the boomer management knows that.

Show up early and stay late and you will be rewarded. Just make sure they see that you're there. (Additional accomplishments during those extra hours not required.)

My manager has been a power a--hat about being in the office the entire time..so much so harassment has been discussed. But he's on a power trip.. if it's working for the people...my god just leave it alone.

I think you are onto something here as right after the BB email, our function’s executive sent an email basically saying not us as we don’t have space so maybe in 2026. So kind of much ado about nothing for probably many people where we don’t have space. When they announced the return to work plan last year it was the same story and not a single cube has been built out for us in a year’s time. So at this rate maybe 2027 for IT?

@c0 quarter of a million is low. I make more than that as a 15. Just saying.

Maybe if the enormously paid (compared to everywhere else) JG16+s in St Paul had actually turned up 3 days a week, and done something to actually get their teams back even a little, this could’ve been held off. Instead they stayed away and St Paul stayed a ghost town while they took their easily over quarter-million dollar salaries (plus huge benefits like LTIP), giant homes and so-called “global” roles that have never looked even an inch past Woodbury and sc--wed the rest of us.
