This was not based on performance. It was done to save costs and involved random selections to foster a new culture within and, disrupt existing friendships/cliqs

It's most probably a more common occurrence in the corporate stores and I believe happens in many of the store s. It's a culture of delegating everything to the frontline, and being in a position to take advantage, especially if the Store Mgr is off and not at the location. There is no checks and balances for the ast mgr position. What's incredible their mgrs know about this and do nothing about it.

In some cases the get-a-longs were kept, no doubt.
Vendetta's were definitely settled, as a final f-u to people who wouldn't go along with the norm and challenged existing policies and practices.
I got leading on my year end last year and I am considered a high performer and I’m out. I’ve also been here 25 years so maybe that was part of it?

That was TOTALLY my experience as a customer with the East Hanover, NJ Verizon Wireless store. The "Managers" were unable to assist even after I requested to speak with them!
Consequently, can't wait to stop back in now to see how things went for them last Thursday?!
Lots of store closures were geographically targeted. Remote stores and districts to eliminate extended periods of travel for support channels. Example, a district where stores are an hour and a half away from each other in the same district, impacts travel for Rosa, directors, sr directors, VP’s and so forth. Lots of save-able money and resources (time) by these changes. (I am a senior manager of an impacted store). It wasn’t personal, it wasn’t performance based. Those will be the next rounds.

In my world, in a corporate store, nothing has changed, the 2 Asst managers were sitting in the back room while the store had 10 people in the queue. Like usual it was anarchy, no customers directions, people not knowing were how to sign in ,reps haphazardly calling names of people put back into the queue by the garbage user unfriendly pos system. I'm shocked we never have riots at our location. And I can't believe these 2 Asst managers have jobs.And their mgmt know about it.
I was part of the process and some of the leaders were out to settle scores of the people that spoke up and out. This rif was a get out of jail card for those they never wanted to manage up or have the guts to write up in the first place. Another poster talked about the friendship/cliques and it’s totally true. I really hope someone sues so Verizon has to show the list of all the people and how they stacked ranked all that perform the same job and title.
In my observation, they stack ranked employees and gave choice leaders to pick names. If you have great relationships with your higher ups, you are saved for now, test targeted. Irrespective of your past performance. Along with me few others were in the same situation. Also if they you are smarter than your boss, they feel unsecured and removed you. Those who are still working, don’t sacrifice your personal/family time to impress your boss. Just do your duty and get your paycheck. That’s my advice. Also never stop learning new skills.
It couldn't be purely performance based. Not saying this to try and save face.
My entire group was eliminated including two leaders. I think some functions were just completely decimated.

Most was based on performance and others were based on no longer doing that work.
Ehhh, mix, it was a hard cut to reduce, some were cuts because there are no plans to continue with a certain business line moving forward. Others were to reduce general headcut. At that point of course it is a bit of performance base. If you are told you have to get rid of 20% of your group, are you going to pick the people who you need to get the work done for the following year and can possibly pick up the work others are doing, or are you going to cut someone that might be calling it in a little more or who is just not as diverse in skillset. At the end of the day hard decisions have to be made.
You can clearly look at the list and see it was performance based for most. There are a few that caught strays due to their pay.
I know two people who got fired and no other reason than their performance. I know of another good employee that got fired and he was old but very well employee. Idk how the heck they made their selection. Managers are lying if they’re saying they had no say. I’m sure they sent their boss a rank of their employees. But it does seem we were selected via a program because I can’t understand who they selected good employees to let go. I think it had a lot to do with how much you were making and performance base.
