Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

I’m anxious about the upcoming layoffs

It’s not that I’m particularly attached to my job here. I’ve been with EJ for over five years, which feels more than enough. It’s a solid addition to the resume, but beyond a certain level of engagement, there’s not much on offer in terms of progression or upskilling. My worry isn’t about losing this job specifically, but about the state of the job market. I’ve spent the last six months casually looking around, and what I’ve seen has been pretty discouraging. I didn’t want to end up feeling cornered, but that’s exactly where I find myself now.

@bz yes! Remember they might be able to take your role but they can’t take your knowledge. Their loss.

@ch - how did they indicate minimal impact? Did your GP say that?

My division and department has gotten indication of minimal impact. I'm not bragging about that. I am still nervous about the possibilities, especially since the top c suite GPs are all new. I'm especially nervous of the job market here in STL. I have only worked in financial services since 2011. I have 7 security licenses and working on CFP. I really don't want to move into another industry or area in finance to start all over again at the bottom. With most of the other big firms removing remote work, I feel the options are limited.

I’m feeling the same way. I haven’t been at Jones for long, and I’d really be surprised if my role was eliminated, but I can’t shake that impending doom feeling. The job market is brutal right now.

Stay strong and keep your head down. It's the home stretch.

Not much to add here, but if you are considering looking, I'd recommend starting a serious search as soon as possible. There are a lot of "lifers" at Jones that haven't needed to update their resume or interview outside of EJ in 15-20 years. The market they're about to go into is unlike anything they're remotely prepared for....it's absolutely brutal.
