Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

How could Hy-Vee save money without laying off people?

Posting as a current long time employee who still works in a store. Could you imagine how great the company could be if the office reached out to its employees and asked for honest and thought out feedback.

Asked questions like:

  • How could Hy-Vee save money without laying off people?
  • How could we make your jobs easier?
  • What are ways we could be more efficient?
  • What are ways we could increase sales in our stores?
  • What are ways we could increase our profit as a company without raising prices?

And not just a two question survey monkey with a couple yes/no questions I get that “corporate” is supposed to be answering these questions, but guess what, they don’t know everything.

There are some really smart people working at the stores that deal with real store problems on a daily basis.

Randy was right in his video today, the stores are the most important part of the company… More focus should be there in truely supporting those people.

And if you do ever add corporate jobs again, you need more support staff that gets in to stores and really helps people… Not on a once a quarter basis but every week or two to really make an impact.

Anyway, I’m rambling…

But, there ARE issues and real world solutions that every day employees could easily answer and help if ever given the chance.

I hope everyone knows this is not the first time King Randy has dumped employees! These disposed of employees are not percentages, Randy. They are, in many cases, dedicated family people.
Can anyone imagine Dwight, Ron or Ric being so nasty and heartless in a company wide speech?! Thank you Channel 8.

  1. Stop sponsoring Indy Car drivers. No one cares about Indy Racing.
  1. Stop giving money to football players and actors. They already have millions.
  1. Stop sponsoring Nascar events.
  1. Stop trying to be a mini-mall. It's a grocery store. Sell groceries. Not shoes and clothes etc
  1. Get rid of all online ordering services. The profit on most of those orders don't even cover the employee who is walking around shopping those orders.

To add to this, if executives are in fact reading these posts, I 100% agree that some of these posts are just complaints from bitter and maybe even “bad” ex-employees. However, there are posts like this one and MANY others where there is a common theme. There are suggestions. There are are issues. There are systems that need to be fixed. There are employees that feel unheard and left out. And honestly, while yes some have left, there are way more that haven’t and truly care. So in these posts, I do hope that you take a minute, without getting defensive and without deflecting blame and really read/listen to them and at bare minimum acknowledge that there is some truth here. Your employees, the ones that bust their butts every day and focus on the details to keep their store and this company running…THEY are what truly matter. Focus on them 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on. Give them the tools, the support, plus the acknowledgement and all of your plans and goals will come to fruition. Thank you.
