Criteria for being a HiPo?

What is the criteria for being a HiPo in XOM?

I have seen a few so far - they literally just destroy the morale of the teams, make terrible decisions that the teams have to bear the impact of long after they leave. They focus heavily on optics to outside organizations, they don’t like technical people (or anyone in their teams) that actually are heart and soul of their teams and perhaps the only good part of it is that they leave soon but it never feels soon enough.

Question is are the rest of us incapable of seeing how amazingly great these future leaders are (and that’s why we didn’t make it) or is this all just as true as it feels?

@ck.. excluding WM, only way others advance or rank high is DEI and never merit?

@bk We definitely know he was straight. Looks white to me. I guess the accent was enough to offset the bad build and lack of aggie status.

Yes, doesn’t have to be SWM though that’s majority. Women, some token people of color and LGBTQ can also rank higher to ensure diversity

@by this is very accurate, they have low integrity and blatantly steal credit. I worked late nights and weekends to complete a high visibility project ahead of schedule and when it was launched, the credit was all for the HiPo, I was nowhere. The next phase starts and everyone needs me to work again, like nothing happened 😀

Selfish, overconfident, car salesman communication, and say yes to VP / parrot VP opinion no matter what. (Don’t challenge with facts)

@OP SWM, wiry build, above average height, A&M class ring. Bonus points for baritone voice.

Competence isn’t a factor as far as I can tell.

Well you could try and cause saftey violations and get promoted. One supervisor almost ki-led me and another employee with H2S gas. His friends covered up everything and it was all swept under the rug. He is still on the way up and is promoted and moved every two years. Another stellar employee sat around all day dodling and day dreaming. They were promoted to a specialist role. Everything they are asked to solve problems they respond with I don't know. This specialist has certain talents and a-s ets. You are either a hipo or not you cannot work harde and become one. Only the chosen are hipos and the meek shall inherit the earth. Exxon is bizaro world remember nothing makes sense. They either like you or don't.
