Ever wonder why your management says such nice things to you about your future with the company and potential but then ranks you poorly? It is because they need you to stay and be the one to take the low ranking!

absolutely
it’s called “hire to fire” and it happens at every single culture that operates like exxon
when amazon says they “can’t hire anyone” this is why. software devs and warehouse workers alike know they’re just meat to get cut after a year so some manager can protect their legacy team
Also they give promotions from 27 to 28 just to refill the higher rank group because of the old people they just PIPd left a gap.
You are told your ranking will drop when they inform you of that promotion.
@by yes and no. They moved me to O and E just often enough to keep me blinded to the truth for longer than I would like to admit. Working on finding a new job. Never been lower than VG but have had multiple years throughout my “career” with 0% merit increase. What I can tell you is the years I was outstanding and the years I was very good my contributions were the same as far as I can tell.
@OP speaking from experience?
been there, for too long, should have moved elsewhere sooner.
