Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Say you are being LRed. Can you contest the decision and show that your manager wanted you gone?

Say you had a dispute with him. He was clearly at fault and tried to hide it. Now he wants you gone and he made it happen. Right after being informed that you have to go, can you appeal the decision by let's say contact everybody you can above his rank and on his reporting hierarchy to explain the situation ? That would be during the notice period.

You should challenge your manager to fight and swing first! They think they can put you on a list with no recourse! Swing on the mf and force them to feel your pain!

After being convicted for stealing IP from a security firm a few years ago Cisco lost any moral grounds to speak about anything
At that moment for me the company and everything they say became sh-t

Only way to fight is to collect Evidence for a lawsuit on your manager and company.

Your case is strong if it is discrimination. Contact a lawyer and find out if your evidence is strong.

HR and company are hand in hand to abuse all the laws and sc--w the employee.

Just reply to the manager and cc 3 levels above him that you're not leaving. If you work remotely, start going into the office 5 days a week. This layoff will be rescinded. Now, file a compliant against this obnoxious manager. Result: manager will be the one getting the boot. If you're good enough, you might end up getting his job. Icing on the cake: find that manager's home and drive-by, if you see him, shout out "hahahaha, karma is a b1tch".

It would only work if you had filed/documented your 'dispute' prior to the LR. Ideally, you'd need an Ethics case open already, then it opens up the possibility of the LR being retaliation. If you didn't call attention to the 'dispute' before the LR, you're cooked.

Yes you can open a case. I did with reasonable cause but just got a late response before my end date that no action will be taken for my case.

You can open a case and it does not hurt to ask but do not expect much. There is mention of disputing your layoff in the package/paperwork.

Not sure if those who "lawyered up" got a more positive response.

The severence package did help me cut my losses but I still ended up losing money on the layoff. You risk the severence package if you take legal actions plus lawyers cost money.

I opened a case with employees relation (HR) in April to report the abusive behavior of the management after a recent reorg. I didn't receive any response. In August my new manager from India told me that my position was eliminated.

@by Exactly. People think HR is there for the employee. Nope. Its there to protect the company from lawsuits. Every interaction with it should be viewed through that lense.

I guess there is two sides of this:

  • you want the company to lnow
  • you want the issue fixed or resolved if possible

First will happen anyway. Second probably not unless it impacts the company or the customers. Does it?

Why should it be illegal? HR won't help, Neither manager nor HR are not your friends. They will start thr case when you are gone they will close the case, just formalities.

Do it, go level up one step by step. You have nothing else to loose, you are out anyway, but it will put some bad signs on your manager for the next LR, he/she would be potentially on the list to go. Appeal? What a joke. Nobody cares about your appeal, it won't go anywhere.

Leave it behind and move forward.
