Middle-level managers were not laid off but transitioned to Individual Contributors. This is how the organizational layers were reduced. However, upper-level managers still retain their direct reports.

I don't believe OP expected middle managers to be laid off.
@by having managers doing layoffs and then layoff the managers is not how Intel does layoffs. They kept most of the managers and made many IC. “Flatten org” by making manager IC not qualified as IC. Get rid of excellent engineers. Keep friends and family. CVP/VP/Directors all in on it. LBT lost control and clueless.
It’s what happens when you put the people who should be layed off, doing the layoffs.
They needed the managers to do the employee layoffs. Once those are done, the managers will be let go. You didn't really think the higher ups wanted to do all dirty work themselves.
What a joke this is. They didn't cut a single one that I see. What they did cut was a bunch of ICs. Something has to be done here. This must come to a head.
