2 years of pay for each year of service, with a 26-week maximum used to be a typical severance offer. But I expect the same skinflints who just announced a 1% reduction in the maximum 401K "match" will be quietly "update" the standard offer to only 1 week per year.

you only hurt your teammates by ghosting. not the higher ups. i have a co-worker that sings on maybe 3 hours a day on a good day because they're bitter about pay. the rest of us carry her load. mgmt in india isn't impacted.

Give me a buyout and I’ll take it!

@bx Not if one stops showing up without a reason of course. Otherwise I agree, they’ll need to build up a case beforehand to avoid possible wrongful termination lawsuit.

@ak it’s not that easy to terminate for cause. Tons of work on the managers part. Easier/cleaner to just RIF.

Their serance "package" is one of poorest I've seen: a week for every year of service + a week worth of PTO. No extended medical insurance, just Cobra which is the same that you pay WITHOUT employer contribution. That's it!

@a2 I lost so much PTO I had saved for end of year. Worthless after the 40 hour payout and November RIF.

@ak
I get that, but I'm leaving regardless.

@a7 that’s not a good idea. I by no means stand up for them, but not showing up (ghosting) is a job abandonment. There will be no package. Moreover, you’ll make it super easy for them to terminate you for a cause. That’s just the reality of this.

@a7 fun game. try it ;-)
Of course they'll eventually fire you with cause for "job abandonment". You'll get no severance and will carry that on your employment record and not collect unemployment but hey whatever, right?

How long do you think the paychecks keep coming if I just stop showing up? I'm considering not giving notice and just ghost them.
