Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Jump before the parachutes run out

Take the vsp and jump off this crashing plane.
Go join a startup, a smaller firm or even competitors. You will realize how a normal workplace functions. Intel working environment is crazy stressful and the stress is not worth it for your health and career.

Packages aren’t guaranteed so get them while getting good

I regret the time I didn't take the VSP package back in 2008 and got laid off anyways after. I would have saved a lot of money if I just took the VSP and moved on.

People on this site are obsessed with getting a severance package. Unless you can really retire and don’t need to find another job it’s better to have the next job before you leave. If you can align this with being able to get a package great. In today’s job market, especially the time of year we are heading into, you will burn through the severance and probably need to start paying out of pocket for health care before you land that next job. Yes the work environment in some areas of Intel are awful. If Intel can recover it won’t be happening for years. Intel employees should be looking for jobs. Just think before you reach for the severance package. Create a documented plan of your costs and weather or not you can afford the transaction without a job.
