Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Milk em dry while you can... No reason not to

Not just medical, dental, vision but everything else as well. Who knows when you will be let go so might as well milk them for every penny you can. Go request training courses, go spend the $500 we get per year on "health equipment" or whatever tf its called. Go buy $500 worth of random gym equipment, submit a receipt for reimbursement, then go return it all and get your money back... Now you have a nice free $500 check from Dell!

Go get a procedure done that you want - insurance may cover part of it. I got lasik and about 1/4th was covered by insurance.

As for training courses, go find the super pricey ones and have dell pay for it. Doesn't matter if you pass the exam or not but the knowledge and material you get from it is irreplaceable. IE... SANS courses which are about 10k per course. You get like 7 books, downloadable course material and Mp3 audios of the course.

idk what other benefits we have but those are the main ones I can think of. Point is, milk em dry for what you can. Tired of going into the office? Make something up and talk to your manager; then have a medical exemption filed that frees you to WFH for 3-6 months. Dell legally cannot ask for medical documents if your med exemption is under 12 months... btw.

@bt -

Maybe true but I’d trade these BS benefits for European worker rights, vacation days, and healthcare that’s not tied to an employer ANY day.

@de do you not ever go to the marketplace portal? You get employee pricing on cars for several manufacturers, the travel portal routinely beats direct booking by 20-30%, fitness reimbursement and Inspire points can be valuable...I cashed out $3k worth of sports equipment this year with them. Free Costco/other memberships and a ton of of other offers. Between a few vacations, two vehicle purchases, school reimbursement, Inspire and some other here an there options were leveraged it comes to around $23k so far this year. It takes some work on your part and digging around, but we have a ton of benefits.

Car, vacations retail, 23k…what?? Have worked here for 20 years (US), and I think some of this is just trolling….

Fitness and education reimbursement are real. Also adoption fees up to a point. Otherwise, it’s news to me. And Inspire retail points aren’t that significant.

@c9 If you are called in for a layoff meeting stand firm on the reimbursement. Make sure you have handy proof of payment and the approval notice that you received prior to enrollment.

Spent the $5500 and already reimbursed, same with the $500 covering the part of the cost of my new bicycle.

@ak from such posts you can clearly see Dell US still has lots of privileges (in terms of budget) that all (or most of) other countries don't.
Education reimbursement in the EMEA country I work in was removed a decade ago, because it was "too expensive" (it's fully tax deductible for employers).

I hear there are still lots of opportunities that can be used to facilitate important deals (e.g. NBA matches tickets) that our American counterparts can get, while here in Europe if you ask for anything like that they'd think you're joking.

Not to mention the budget for building renovations, which is so ridiculous that we often can replace basic furniture (cafeteria tables and chairs) only when another major office in Europe is downsizing and reallocating the remains across the other facilities.

I understand that the US account for almost 50% of Dell's global revenues, but compared to the US other countries are managed like garbage.

I spend my $5k education reimbursement every year and the thousands of dollars in other benefits we get, whether its buying appliances, a car, vacations etc. We have a great package if you use it. I keep track of all of it and last year saved $23k over retail overall.
