when flipped you will make less $.
contractor shops also run with less overhead and leaner and meaner which means many will be flipped and let go by new employer with much less severance since no tenure. We deserve it. So sad.

Entire groups are going to be flipped to contractor.

The usual rules about having to wait a period of time when going from BB to GB do not apply when the company flips an entire job function to GB.

This is not the first time Intel has done this, but the scale of the action will be across many groups.

Even IT uses contractors for most coding, rather than try to keep BB up to speed on the latest languages and methods.

Expect to not just see entire support groups flipped, but also many lower level engineering functions as well.

In both cases, the roles being flipped are also likely to be replaced by AI in the not too distant future.

The drive to do all this is cost and the pressure to make it happen is enormous. It is Job #1 till the company finds a way to regain revenue growth.

Wide. Told you so. I posted badge flipping on here weeks ago and people pooh-poohed it.

@bm So, HR and other orgs could likely see more outsourcing?

@br Exactly, we are a laughing stock. We need to wake up and face reality. It’s nice to hope Intel will turn around, but will it actually? We need to get a 10,000 ft view of the company. LBT will probably sell something related to our foundry business.

I know this is a negative view but let us face reality. It will take a lot a lot a lot of work to turn this company around.

IFS is not ready and not functioning: we are a chip manufacturing company yet we are having our chips manufactured at TSMC.

@br Intel was the first customer of TSMC.

Intel volumes helped TSMC avoid insolvency in the early years.

But the point is valid that the company outsources fab output, so literally everything else can be outsourced, and soon will be.

LBT is simply doing what he did at Cadence. Everyone just needs to deal with it.

can you reframe the question?

Kind of a generic question, the answer to which is that it will vary.

Expect to see it maximized in support functions, including both supply chain and within the fab organizations.

The product divisions already do some outsourcing and would likely increase the use of contract engineering.

The pay is often similar, but with less job security or benefits. Not the end of the world.
