Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Not quiet quitting but, am done doing anything more than the minimum

I have always gone above and beyond for the last 6-7 years and was rewarded for it twice. One was a "game changer award" which was 1000 USD cash, and the other was a 12% raise. Both were awesome, don't get me wrong here!

The game changer award was my second year, and the 12% raise was my 4th year. Worked my a$$$ off for both of those but, I'm looking for a promotion and was essentially told by my manager a year or so ago that, promotions are generally given out to those OUTSIDE the USA as it's a bigger bang for the buck - and cheaper! and doesn't forsee promotions happening often in the US anytime soon.

Then last year they flattened the middle management level and we were put under a director who clearlly has no interest in managing 20 people.. So my hopes for promotion basically went down the drain.

I had ZERO expectations for raises this year but was hoping for at minimum 2.5-3%. Well I can't say that the 1.82% raise is worthy of me working harder than necessary anymore. The lowest raise I've ever gotten in the 7 years I've been here was 3.89% at Dell up until last week, and under a director who wants nothing to do with us - as we are not on the corporate side of Dell..

I love my job and my pay isn't bad at all and have worked my butt off for a promotion year after year but, am failing to see a reason to work harder than necessary at this point. I'm in Fed and we generally get forgotten about and never have a budget for ANYTHING. "budget isn't there" "money is tight this quarter" "we didn't get a budget" etc etc etc... We almost never get open REQ's either.

Now we are working under a director who tries to spend no more than 10 minutes in a 1x1, has no interest in getting to know anybody on a personal level, no interest in being involved in WHAT we are doing, all for a joke of a raise, or no chance of promotion.

Like I said, I actually do love my job but the extra work, volunteering to take on projects or extra work, etc... is no longer there for me. Promote me and sure, I'll take those things on but I'm not gonna do the work that an i7/i8/i9 does for half price.

@by No, it means that someone did a LOT of work, went above and beyond and made a difference to some extent or another. Heck of a lot better than pointless "CHEERS" insperity points, dont ya think?
What do you mean? You wouldn't take 1000 bucks?

@by "game changer" is an award you goofball..1k of actual money is a heck of a lot better than a stupid "cheers" insperity award, or any insperity award for that matter. It's paid out in an actual paycheck, not fake points that can't be used for anything other than gift cards, and those can't pay bills.

Most people here hate Dell, that's obvious. And in many ways understandable but...

I dont know what you do, nor do I care but I actually do learn a LOT from my job and yeah, Dell isn't the greatest company but it IS a globally recognized company and one that EVERYONE knows about. I hardly say I'm wasting time here because I'm not. The amount of connections I've made, the amount of knowledge I've gained, and the experience I've gained is something I never could have done at some small company.

One day I'll probably leave but, unlike many of you, I'm not actually unhappy with my actual job. I'm unhappy with DELL. I'm making good money and want more but who doesn't?

I have it easy tbh... no company can offer me anything better than what I have right now unless it's more money AND remote.

@bs Yup! it's $1000 USD - if you live in the US - and not stupid insperity points! After taxes it's it's more like 800 but still a nice prize!

@cz dang, sounds like someone has never gotten a game changer award lol

Your manager has to literally submit a request for game changer awards for each individual they nominate, list reasons as to why, achievements, etc etc etc... and it's then approved by VP's. It's not something you can do via Insperity and they are very rare and hard to get. It's not done via Insperity either.

@OP Been working just hard enough to not get fired for 8 years now and have never been happier. Welcome to the club, we spend a minimum of two hours a day in the game room playing pool. It's all good though because our boss joins us.

Hard work only leads to more work. Nothing wrong with that when you are young and hungry, it helps your career and skill level. Eventually I started realizing that others on the team were making just as much if not more and doing less. That's when I learned to push back and pace myself.

Why dont you go start a company on your own? Then you can give all your money to your employees.

How is $1,000 USD a game changer? Sure, a nice thank you maybe, but certainly not a game changer.

Look, the bottom line is you can continue to erode your career away at Dell, where we're all learning nothing, doing nothing, not going anywhere, or we can get the he-l out of here and continue building equity in our career paths. I'm taking the latter path.

For those who keep saying, "things will get better," or "maybe next year," or "let's wait and see" you're only fooling yourselves if you think Dell is ever going to clean up its act in terms of how employees are treated and respected. Not happening. Dell is a garbage dump of a company. They want us to quit.
