Thread regarding VMware layoffs

VCF coffee talk

It was very good overall. After the meeting, the consensus is

  • RTO applies only to those who are within 50 miles and no relocation for the remote
  • No more layoff until VCF 9 release

R&D cost already cut from 2.3 Billion to 1.6 Billion. It will be further cut to 1.3 Billion in this quarter and end up with 1.2 Billion by year end. 400 million more to cut. US employees are 250k average. So another 1600 to 2000 US employees to cut. Or you can multiply for other geos. Hock said he will increase R&D spend by 1 billion before the acquisition. So, don't believe anything from anyone.

All remote employees will eventually be laid off. It's coming.

If yes, then expect lots of rifs after v9 when they will only need to give us our 1 week of severance.

Does anyone knows BC severance policies? VM was 1 week pay for per year of experience. What is BC ?

Why HT layoff in US and India, but keep Europe safe?! This is fking unfair and give them like 50% of our RSU package for 100% lower cost of living. I have to work 15h a day and same morAn in NL/BGN works 6h of which 1h meaningful at most lol

Does anyone know when we are no longer entitled to severance based on # of yrs at VMware? Is it after being at BDCM 1 yr?

Make customers pay for K8s freeware. Then force them to convert VMs to containers. Then the customers can easily go to GCP and AWS. Hock is aiming for a board seat in Alphabet? This looks like doom loop death spiral. If you ever wondered how PE firms destroy companies, now is your chance to get a front row seat to this clown show.

Multi cloud was the switzerland of computing. Now we have a Thailand of computing. These things in Thailand are so cute. They are better than the real ladies.

People didn't want to pay for k8s freeware? Wonder why.

No one bought the k8s Tanzoo science experiments that their egos pushed on everyone and identified as “Tanzoo”

In reality, individual middleware products and the PaaS platform in the zoo have stickiness, but need to come out of the shadows after years of being told they were sh-t by senior mgmt - many of which still remain.

My guess is that the Tanzoo BU will merge into VCF eventually, with some assets sold off. The managers in place will never be on the right side of the line of doom as they are incompetent sycophants.

No one bought tanzoo? Fine, they can pay 10x for vsphere and they will get tanzoo for free. Great! The customers can go f themselves. I think this day light robbery is not sustainable. May be many customers need a couple of years to get off of vsphere. In the long run we are all dead. Make hay while the sun shines. The main thing is tanzoo.

VCF has always done well since day 0. The revenues are always stellar. Just that they like to keep laying off people every quarter according to some target. Since the products are all single SKU now, no one knows which product is doing well or not. It's just up to some random rules like too junior, too senior, number of reports, time in the company, H1s. contractors etc etc that people get chopped. Waiting for the next new rule to chop more people. Everyday there is a new narrative and a new drama.
