Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I’ve been job hunting for the past few months

It’s been draining in a way I didn’t expect. I’ve sent out dozens of applications, followed up after interviews, and tried to stay optimistic, but the silence is rough. Ghosted by recruiters, vague rejection emails, and long interview processes that just… end.

It’s weird trying to balance everything, doing my current job while feeling like I’m walking a tightrope, never knowing if I’ll make it to the other side or just fall into more uncertainty. It really doesn't help just how brutal the market is right now.

@bp It's tough trying to get into trades and get an apprenticeship when your hair has a little gray in it. Worse, if you're at an age when those who started in trades are retiring because their bodies have broken down. Ask me how I know.

I left many years ago .. totally drained and not knowing what to do. I retooled and had three great paying jobs after leaving Intel. It is tough to do but it is doable .. I encourage you to call on one of your old time managers who you respected and ask them for advice .. old strong Intel engineers learned to never give up. I encourage you to not .. but to learn from those ahead of you.

How many use their intel time to apply and interview for other jobs?

@OP take intel off of your resume. You may get more calls. Not kidding. The tech world has Intel's number. People from Intel are not productive in other environments.

Purchase a CNC or Injection Molding machine. Hire a stud to operate. Create demand. Bingo!

What about the military? You'd be surprised re the advanced fields needing positions to be filled. Healthcare benefits. Housing. Career advancement. Not trying to be sarcastic, but perhaps an option worth investigating for the younger crowd.

Don't trade Unions employ a high % of felons. I am not knocking honest work with your hands. I'm just pointing out there might be cultural differences. Not to mention that engineering and science is also a vocational- with a much much steeper learning curve. I have never heard of a degreed engineer or scientist being so hard up that they have to rob anyone. Nobody is dissing anyone for their career path here, but there are such things as natural talent and learned talent that can benefit society in many ways.

Hang in there. Consider changing to a trade like plumbing which is in demand and pay is great. Intel on your resume makes it like 10X harder. Need more plumbers for all the sh-t in the toilets for RTO.

I'll be downvoted in the post. All of us in Oregon come back 1 year later and how many don't have similar jobs or no jobs.

You are not alone in this feeling. I always tell myself and others that you only need one "yes". Perhaps your future job simply hasn't been posted yet .. or applications not reviewed. Do not give up hope. Do your best to apply to as many jobs as you can with quality Resumes/Cover Letters (LLMs can be very helpful) and look for ways to improve or showcase your skills with personal projects.

Despite what the haters and trolls may say, the Intel brand still holds some respect in the technology world. Be proud of your work, be consistent, and the success will follow.

Stop being such an elitist. You need to learn a trade.

Learn how to weld or become a machinist. Don't be scared to get your hands dirty.

Been there. Close down your LinkedIn account and take Intel off of your resume. You will get calls and interviews.

You need to set up multiple AI agents to scour the web for remote job openings and then use custom prompts to create individualized resumes for each job. Create an RLHF loop to fine tune the model that is rewarded whenever it schedules an interview on your calendar. Use Cluely to ace your interviews and Claude Code to submit your pull requests once you land the job. Keep repeating until you have 4 or 5 jobs like Soham Parekh. This is who you are competing with in the new AI economy so you will need to adjust your strategy.

It’s draining and depressing. I know how you feel. Employers have all the power and leverage. Try expanding outside of semicon area if you can.
Ultimately Intel is being prepared by LBT for the private equity chop shop so keep at it on the side and get out while the getting out is easier. All the best and don’t take it too personally.

@OP, same. Lets not be Zinsers and blame it on ‘macro’…

we are, in fact, radioactive. Wild that one company can destroy a career.

The long, drawn out interview processes that just end are indeed the worst. Can spend 1-2 months going through it just to get rejected or not hear anything back at all is criminal
