Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Diversity and Inclusion

We were already a diverse and inclusive company before the GF Thing and OXY hopped on the D-E-Ibandwagon like other companies but rebranded as DIB. Why do we need this silly group DIB? Meetings and games yapping about our diversity and inclusiveness. How does this make OXY MONEY? How does this make OXY function better?

Everyone is sick of this DIB stuff but goes along with it because of Vicki and HR.

@1j6, That can’t be true because @15y+1k2an05ay says Oxy’s DIB is harmless. Maybe that poster doesn’t know what the DIB department is doing, or he/she thinks classes on micro aggression are no big deal.

@1a2 Kim Jong II, brutal communist leader of North Korea, was the original Dear Leader. (look it up) That title is being passed on to the next mayor of NYC.

@1a2 why does an international oil and gas company have to celebrate any type of lifestyle? Does it celebrate alternative lifestyles in the Middle East?

How about celebrating increased profits and dividends for its shareholders? Window dressing is right.

All is see on social media is Oxy celebrating alternate lifestyles... I'm sure the dear leader will not be impressed... A quick way to get your carbon capture funding pulled.

@196 good point. If the company were already treating its employees right, why was there a need for a DIB department? Window dressing?

I thought diversity and inclusion was what the company has practiced all along.

@15y so if that’s what it’s not for, what is it for?

I worked with DIB in the past. It’s harmless. It’s not pushing any insidious agenda. It has absolutely nothing in common with what universities like Harvard and Columbia were doing.

Real is at the maximum part of the scale just below super real. Below real is almost real. Then pseudo real is below that followed by unreal and finally totally unreal. It is a spectrum.

@zp Google AI says “ An international oil and gas company, often abbreviated as IOC, is a privately-owned, publicly traded company involved in the global exploration, extraction, refining, and marketing of oil and gas.”

So there you go, although I guess we could make up our own definitions if we felt like it. This is ‘The Layoff’ of course.

What was the issue again? Oh, someone said Oxy was very diversified when it was a real international company. Are we clear now? Or does “real” mean something else other that real?

Real international oil company could mean a company operating concessions in many countries(at least 10), an extensive exploration program, and a busy BD department looking at all international growth opportunities that could make sense.

@fe Are you the guy who asked 'What is wrong with Oxy' expecting no argument or facts, then got totally smoked and buried with that long list of examples, facts, case studies, issues and evidence.

Not learn your lesson yet? You are Oxy and its nothing to be proud of on any level.

@b8 what does this even mean?

I don't listen to anything they have to say when it comes to DIB. If certain people need it then let them have it. Everything they talk about I learned at home from my parents and that was to treat everyone with the same respect no matter skin color, religion, personal preferences, etc. It is simple and all you have to do is walk away from it.

Has anyone yet provided anything to defend Oxy using facts and examples in ANY way? All I see in response to people calling out Oxy is insults and slander in return, usually grasping at things they have no way of verifying. How does a company go on like this?

Imagine what the stock price could be if you posted on social media oil and gas discoveries instead of congratulating new hires, promoting alternative lifestyles and celebrating your interns..You need to talk to your communications team about it.

Any which way the wind blows when you're trying to prove yourself (aka clueless). Take the safety in numbers approach, I suppose.

Agree. Just focus on finding the grease and it will all work out just fine.

Why is ‘best company ever’ in quotation marks? Who are you quoting?

My crystal ball says Oxy’s DIB focus will cease to exist the day after VH leaves.

'Inclusive'? That's a good one. And Oxy is the 'best company ever' too. Another classic.

And the way Oxy promotes their DIB is really one-sided. It's all about their little DIB group patting themselves on the back and their endless promotional articles highlighting women and people of color. It's gets old for sure. People don't care about "belonging". They just want to do their jobs, be compensated, and go home to their families.

We are so SICK of all these “racial” overtones and references plus Inclusion, its lost its real meaning! Ditch DIB !

It is a sad situation when companies have to jump on the bandwagon of anything. Look at the green energy movement with oil companies. First they were all in and now some are backing out.
