@bn I retired early at 35 with about $23M from a solid crypto investment, but only have 1 car and no kids. House is obviously paid off.
Should be ok for retirement, but inflation is picking up so who knows?
@bp start saving the maximum limit to your 401k. Save early. Save often.

I knew a guy who sold trade secrets to Chinese manufacturers and scraped together a cool $15M in two years doing so. He’s blacklisted from Intel, but all things considered…I think he’d do it again.
It would be interesting to know how people with high networth got there. May be there is a lesson or two younger folks can pick up.

@a2 I assume you are a guy. Did you have to pay half of your wealth to your ex-wife at the time? If not, how?
OP, why ask on this site? You have no way of knowing if the posts are valid. Average values are substantially higher than the median values. As someone else stated, people in tech making much higher than average salaries should have much more saved.
The good question is how much will you need to live on when you retire and do your assets support this. If your house is paid off and you have no other debt your living costs can be very minimal.

59, $4M net worth. Married but wife never worked. 4 kids, all adults and selfsufficient.
56 yo. 900k all in all. Wife+1 kid to support.

Another former Intel employee just retired early at 61. After 23 years with Intel I have 3.8M in investments and funds. And 3 houses in different cities for my family and investments that total 1.7M. Before joining Intel I had $3K cash and $4K in car debt.
Furthermore, the top 10 percent of retirees are at $900,000.
Consider yourselves extremely fortunate to be there.

little less than @a2 but about five years younger. i know that many are in a much better position than i am
61 YO, 19 years with Intel, divorced no kids, a bit over $2M in 401K, 600K invested, $1M condo paid off. I think I'll be fine.
