Citi Discloses Over 300 New York Layoffs, Part of Ongoing Job Cuts

Citibank recently disclosed over 300 layoffs at its Manhattan headquarters, part of broader ongoing job cuts at Citi.

In early 2024, Citi announced plans to cut 20,000 employees through 2026. Earlier this year, a Citi executive noted that the financial services giant is making headway on the goal.

The New York Department of Labor on Monday posted details on company filings showing over 550 permanent layoffs at Citibank's Manhattan corporate offices this year. Nearly 250 had been disclosed in a previously posted February filing, while over 300 were disclosed to regulators in April and posted to the website this week, according to Citi.

Dates for all the layoffs disclosed in the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, notices, range from April 14 to July 30, according to Citi.

"As we said previously, we will continue to reduce our headcount globally in 2026," a spokesperson told ThinkAdvisor by email Wednesday. "These changes reflect adjustments we're making to ensure our staffing levels, locations and expertise align with current business needs; efficiencies we have gained through technology; and progress against our transformation work, which is nearing Citi's target state. We are grateful for the contributions these colleagues have made to Citi."

You have leverage. Report your manager to Legal, Compliance and Ethics because according to the Compliance Training communicating Citi business via personal devices is both illegal and a violation of company policy.

Citi and other financial institutions have had to pay millions of dollars to the bank Regulators for such violations in the past. And they will again in the future, because employees simply can Not avoid the temptation of communicating official Citi business via their own mobile phone or personal computers/tablets devices. LOL!

How many other times has your manager done this? If he's done it to you, surely he's done it in the past, and who knows about what other type of Citi business??

Your manager Fvcked / Fired you, turnabout is fair play.

My manager earlier this week attempted to fire me via text message to my mobile phone fully aware that I was on vacation in Europe with my family. I ignored those text messages, which was from their own personal phone which means external to Citigroup thus not captured and recorded as per bank policy and US regulations. To contact me while away, and with my family, highlights how management at Citigroup is disrespectful and discourteous as they feel they above the rules set for the peasant workers.

Citi does not file warn notices in advance. They payout the warn period instead. So you’re on the books for 90 days ( in NY, other states are 30 or 60) -after you’re told you are let go. You lose access and are not working, but you get a regular paycheck etc.

Any posted WARN notices are for layoff that already happened, for people already told months prior.

@bm

This makes sense.

If what some posters here are saying is true that managers, MDs etc. knew as early as October 2025 who they chose to be on the Layoff Hit List, then Citi needed at least 2 months to get organized, get their ducks in order, ducks in a row before filing WARN in December 2025 in their U.S. state.

@bm that’s just wrong and if Citi in New York filed warn two months prior, then laid you off like youre describing that’s just not legal.

WARN is proactive notification your job is being eliminated. Thats why Citi notifies you, you get that email, and Citi pays out your non working period of 90 days then provides severance as soon as administratively possible.

Please stop spreading misinformation, or reach out to an attorney.

@a8

You're correct. I was RIFd mid-February.

I received a WARN Notice email at 8:00pm EST same day as my RIF day from the Department of Labor informing me that Citi filed a WARN with them 2 months prior to February, which means Citi filed it in December 2025.

End of my WARN period or official term date is mid-May.

I was told not to expect RIFs at 390 Greenwich until Sept-November, maybe 1Q2027. There is a backlog of processing and HR is thin. Makes sense, HR at Citi is invisible.

Per the article - Dates for all the layoffs disclosed in the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, notices, range from April 14 to July 30, according to Citi.

@a8 They 'pay' through the WARN notice. So when you are laid off you are given your WARN. Technically you are still employed until the end of the WARN so they did give you the notice before letting you go.

@a2 that’s not true. They have to file WARN notice prior..that’s the whole point of them. It’s not filed after the fact.

These NYC layoffs are trailing from 3 months prior. You get paid for the duration of the WARN period then severance after.

So May WARN notices were employees from RIF in February. June were in March etc.
