Thread regarding Nordstrom layoffs

Lord & Taylor closure effect on Nordstrom

Malls whom have both a Nordstrom and a closing/closed Lord and Taylor

Curious to see if the closing of L&T would push Nordstrom over the edge to close one of these locations listed below

Michigan
• Twelve Oaks Mall
(one of only two Nordstroms in the Detroit area. Not sure on Volume, however the Nordstrom at Somerset Collection located 20miles away is a high Volume store)

Illinois
• Woodfield Mall
(This mall is located pretty close to O’Hara Airport in Chicago, which is a plus. However this mall also has a Sears, which is sure to be close by years end)

Massachusetts
• Natick Mall
(Best mall in the mass.)
•South Shore plaza
(One of those lowest volume stores)

Connecticut
• West Farms Mall
(This store was originally slated to be 1 of the 16 stores in 2020 to close, according to WWD)

New Jersey
• Garden State Plaza
(One of the highest volume stores)

Pennsylvania
• King of Prussia
(One of the highest volume stores)

Maryland
• The Mall in Columbia
(Don’t have much on this location, looks to be in the middle of DC & Baltimore)

The Nordstrom wing at Novi has a high vacancy for smaller jobs. Very low traffic wing.

Nordstrom is not high end. Used to be. Top shop and zella are not high end. High end is staying out of the game. It’s direct from high end to costumer.

I’m not stating if will directly effect Nordstrom. My statement is it will effect the mall. Which in turn has an effect on Nordstrom.The Lord & Taylor Customer is closer to a JCPenny customer then a Nordstrom customer. However this still reduces traffic at a given mall, making it less desirable.

Should only have a minimal effect. The Nordstrom full-line customer and the Lord and Taylor customer really are not the same. Over the last few decades Lord and Taylor became more of a middle class department store while Nordstrom still remains high end.
