Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Pulse Check

This is something I’ve observed and was curious if others have seen the same. I’ve seen females rise faster within EJ home office than male colleagues. Obviously there are many males still being promoted and serving in leadership positions but is HR pushing gender as a reason to promote when all else is equal? Are others seeing this? Maybe just a small sample size.

I’m sure this will get downvoted and I’ll get ripped for even asking, but I’m genuinely curious.

@fr a little over a year ago, when the rest of America was backing off DEI, PP came out and emphatically stated that DEI was going to continue strong. I watched a white man, who was setting sales records at his company, get turned down for an FA position, so they could hire a female substitute teacher. She was such an introvert that her mother had to accompany her to civic/social events and introduce her to people in the community.
Once again, gender was more important than skill...

Kool-aid drinking company guys can get promotions. Just post how great PP and Edward Jones are on LinkedIn all the time. Obsessively like and comment on and senior leader posts. Be relentless and annoying! They reward it.

Penny's vision of this utopian firm has turned into a trainwreck carrying a dumpster that is currently on fire. Penny, step down now and let someone else who is capable take over leadership. You are the worst thing that has ever happened to this firm. You have valued profits over people. You have singlehandedly ruined associates' lives and associates' families' lives. You are a joke. No one trusts you. No one believes in you. People at the home office hate you. You cannot recover from the blunders you have already made. You had a vision for this firm and you thought you knew better than everyone who ever made decisions at this firm. It has cost you. It has cost the firm. The time is now to step down. You know you are a failure. Everyone around you knows you are a failure. The time to step down is now.

Any company that has a firm wide goal for a certain percent of female leaders can’t argue with this. All else equal, hiring leaders are being told to hire or promote the woman over the man to help meet PPs goal of 50% female leaders. Imagine the backlash if in a few years we had 55% female leaders and PP said we have a goal of 50% male leaders in HO… Hopefully the DEI over merit days are numbered.

Yes - it has been going on for 6 years. It was the cornerstone of PP’s identity politics. Women have every right to rise the ranks of leadership and should be given every chance to do so when their qualifications, education, experience, and success warrant it. Anyone who says differently is ignorant. But what has occurred at EJ is that chromosomes have been given more priority than competencies.
Giving someone a job because of their gender or other characteristics at birth is just as bad as denying someone because of it. The hypocrisy is staggering.

@bj DG?!? Yikes, that guys a joke. Lead CAN to greatness… 2% of our revenue?! He had less impact than the average market leader.

Yes, Edward Jones’ headcount data has shown females historically lagging behind in the ‘leader of leaders’ category, so your observation makes sense.

I have not noticed, but I also have not been paying attention to that. I knew some colleagues that were let go last year. I get it is not an easy discussion for anyone to have, but it was handled poorly. Seeing their experiences made me sad. I feel like that's the state I've been in since then. I love my job and the work I do, but a few months ago greatly added to that sadness. I haven't noticed much else.
