Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Candy Outed

Someone just called him propagating “fluff” materials. He is getting exposed, extremely shallow person. Kuddos to the colleague for taking a stand in the swamp of ‘Yes’ people.

@dj He’s an incompetent nincompoop. How they select these jokers is a mystery.

@bm he's still here because the parasitic exec strategy still works. Step 1, show up and freeze headcount. Step 2 (optional idiocy) is give up all bargaining power as the largest HC company in the world and select exclusive staffing vendors with dubious morals who will give you a payout for not forcing them to compete. Step 3, say a bunch of sh-t like 100x and zero distance but delegate interpretation of that to the slugs underneath you - you don't have time for strategy. Step 4, watch the machine grind it's way to bottom line growth! Attrition is a feature, not a bug, when it reduces headcount and operating expenses. Margins start to look real good, so UHC is willing to spend more of its profits above 85% with Optum to launder the CMS overage. Now you have top and bottom line growth all while the vital organs of the org rot beneath you. Maggots can feed off a corpse as large as UHG/Optum for a long time. Then they move on to the next company and repeat, but the rot stays. You can also just do layoffs but attrition is better for the parasite so the strategy isn't as obvious. RTO is another strategy since you can offload a bunch of costs (people) with cause instead of paying severance or having the legal implications and media coverage of mass layoffs.

The company is craving stability. Firing candyman isn’t going to happen this year…
Instead they’ll hire a replacement give them some position until they are ready to make the move!

Since he is technically challenged, he recommends refactor by AI, so no one can understand.

Can’t blame him for trying to level the playing field.

100x stupidity on display.

@a2 well it took a few years to oust the incompetent Aimee and Nico brigade… it’ll take time with Candyman. Top engineering talent left long time ago…

I read it to. Can you believe he sent out an email to upper leadership with the same article? I read the article too and it is an absolute fluff piece about AI that basically says nothing other than “reconsider refactoring for humans and instead refactor for AI to understand” without once hinting at how… it’s pretty crazy how d-mb he is.

Honestly, I haven't met anyone in tech who actually likes SD as a leader. Not sure how/why he's still here...

@bg Candy is a reference to SD, a tech executive (Chief Digital Officer) at Optum who used to work for Mars Candy.
