Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel Stress and Life Outside of Intel

I wonder how many relationships/marriages have ended due to the last few years of chronic stress at Intel. The chronic job insecurity will take its toll.

Job and relationship loss cover 2 of the 3 types of major loss events that throw people off balance in their lives.

There’s no more talk of “Intel Family”.

With all eyes on 18a and 14a, doing employees like this is the worst thing you can literally do for the company success.

I’m almost convinced, by actions, that Intel leadership wants Intel to fail.

Dude you make it sound like Intel is the first company to fall from the top and go through a series of layoffs over 2 to 3 years. This has happened at IBM (early 1990s), Motorola (early 2000s), Kodak, etc. Just prepare in the future with a 6 to 12 month emergency fund and a plan to pursue a new job search. Life will go on for those impacted and may even be better in their new position.

I don't know... I was there... Maybe you can make a good argument that it was 'more' stressful then other tech companies... maybe not...

but we are all adults and we make choices and live with the consequences. And to be sure, any of us who had high paying jobs in high tech really have not so much to complain about. Would you rather be a prison guard? A garbage hauler? A plumber ? And are those jobs really any less stressful?

think about that while you are enjoying your free coffee and bananas and lounging in the cafe sitting in comfortable chairs having a 1-1 over something that isn't particularly stressful in the grand scheme of things.

What about the 12 hour shifts and the stress that it causes on the body sleep cycle. And don't say the 4 days off are nice to have.

My husband and I both used to work at Intel for years at one point. I left shortly after the pandemic when things started to look way more unstable, and I was fortunate to find a good position elsewhere that used my transferable skills, just as I did when I transitioned into Intel in the first place. My husband still works there and remains the higher earner in our household because of his position, but the ongoing job insecurity has become a major source of stress for him.

We’re a childless couple by choice, with no major debt other than a car loan, and our home is fully paid off, though it’s worth noting that we never moved beyond what was meant to be our starter home. I completely understand how much more stressful this situation can be for people who rely entirely on one income or where both partners work at the same company, which we’ve seen happen often in our circle.

The truth is, the only way to survive in environments like this is to always have a backup plan, a safety net that can fully support you for. The uncertainty is constant, and living with that fear takes a toll to the point that it can break people.

With foundry loosing over $10B per year Intel is designed to fail regardless of its leadership. Accepting the fact that Intel is a temporal job that you can loose any time will lower your expectations out of it.

Mgmt with 20+ years at the company are more worried about not losing their job than making the right decisions.

At the end is all about how well you are with mgmt to decide on whether you're CPMed or not
