Employment attorney

In the next couple of days, many of us will be presented with some form of a legal document from the firm that we need to sign. I know it is always advisable to get these documents reviewed by an employment attorney.

If you have worked with any employment attorneys in the past and recommend them, please share here. Also, share any negative feedback so we can stay away from such attorneys.

The terms will most likely be fairly standard and boilerplate. Don't think you'll have any gotcha moments. Just an FYI before you start talking about attorneys due to emotions. Also, a lot of attorneys will be happy to take your money to review the docs.

@be In a legal context, they could theoretically engage specific attorneys proactively ahead of time to represent them in some fashion so that it would then be a conflict of interest for that attorney to represent someone on the opposite side of a potential dispute. So it would be a conflict of interest for an attorney to represent both the employer and employee, in this type of case.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Keir Gumbs, PooPoo’s newest legal head (former Uber attorney), has already retained many of the top attorneys in the area for this very reason. Uber was ALWAYS anti-employee. Don’t underestimate the reason he was hired for this exact time and purpose.

@b7 - can you help me understand what “conflict out” means in this context?

@b7 Great call out. Jennifer Kingston flat out said that she and they monitor this site, so best to air on the side of caution and keep your recommendations in mind.

Good luck, everyone.

Just a quick reminder before folks start listing out attorney names here: companies sometimes monitor these forums. If we hand over a neat list of recommended employment lawyers, it could make it easier for them to “conflict out” or otherwise interfere with the very people you would want representing us.

If you’re looking for an employment attorney:
• Best bet is to ask privately (DM trusted colleagues instead of posting names publicly).
• You can also use your state bar association referral line, which is confidential.
• If you’ve already worked with someone good, you might offer to connect one-on-one rather than posting their info here.

Not trying to shut down discussion — just making sure we don’t accidentally do the company’s homework for them.
