Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Returning after WFR

Ok i know people will automatically think im crazy here but needs must. The job market is terrible and i can sit and be bitter or take an opportunity presenting itself.

I'm still within the year since departure though and its been suggested i would need to pay back part of my package with nothing in return.

Has anyone gone through similar? My concern is i find myself in the same position again without any significant years of service and financially worse off from handing back part of the package.

Just a side note. If you decide to pursue an offer, be sure to have a clear agreement on the amount of severance money that must be returned and get it in writing.

@be You are wrong. There are open reqs, in sales, right now that are remote. How else would you have outside sales people living near their customers that aren't close to a Dell office?

Why would you want to come back though? Dell is only a "good" company if you are in the right org and have a good manager. Even at that, I wouldn't say it's a "good" company to work for in all honesty and I'm on my 8th year at Dell.

I could be totally wrong here but, I believe HR will know if you were WFR and will also know the reason why. If you really want to come back then, do it when times are "good" at dell. Which would be in the January time frame as Dell is predicted to have a very good next quarter.

@bc That's incorrect. There are NO NEW remote jobs at Dell anymore. Sales is absolutely included in this. If you leave dell by any reason (quite, fired, laid off,) ALL new job postings are onsite/hybrid and remote is not available anymore. Those who are remote currently are the last bunch but, as it stands now - which could very well change - remote jobs are not offered anymore. If you apply for a job at Dell, you must live within an office and are "expected" to work in that office.

Well, times have changed. When you are remote & get the WFR, there's no going back as there are 0 remote jobs anymore unless you are in Sales.

I know several people who returned to Dell, only to be laid off again, some within a year, and others just weeks after coming back. Do what is best for you, and good luck.

I dunno. It wreaks of desperation and you are no better off for it.

I know someone who came back 6 months after WFR and got a position with higher pay. Pretty sweet deal. Basically a 6 mo paid vacation. This was about 3 years ago. Another support guy came back as contractor->fulltime->WFR again.

I know a lot of people who returned after wfr. I left after they joined and no one saws how they are really feeling but a lot of them came in at lower pay and a lower title. Just FYI. Dip your toe back in and see what the7 offer but yes layoffs are still happening. Yes it's still a concern but it's also a paycheck till it happens. If I could find a lower paying job that was in a different conpany but the same salary dell offers, I'd take that personally.
