I think some teams are seriously down to bare metal. I'm not sure how we can get leaner. I'm one of the few test engineers left in the USA

@19f You can understand our confusion since we assume anyone posting toddler rants, licking executive boots, and stating mo--nic opinions like they matter is super-engineer.
@1ay Wow. A reasoned and thoughtful post. Bravo!
In fairness, Teradata really does have a culture of "its always been done this way", coupled with a culture of allowing people to still have stake and control in things that dont technically fall under their current roles because they used to be responsibile. There is definitely no desire to try and keep people in their swimlanes, which adds confusion and complexity to the company. Just look at some of the meetings with 30+ people on there, and see how many people are there with irrelvant roles to the subject at hand. So clearing out some of these people that are so ingrained in everything might free up some barriers and roadblocks.
That all said, there is a ton of institutional knowledge tied up with some of these people as well, again, due to being such a complex envrinoment (mostly by its own making), that losing some of these people will cause major issue.
So I'm not sure what the good answer is.
@181 Super-engineer is back after being spanked by the powers that be at The Layoff for id--tic and profane tantrums. Great to have him and his amazing insights on the board again.
We laid off some really long term employees last week, but TBH, I’m glad they were gone. Too much of “it doesn’t work that way here” and “I know what the customer wants” , too much of talk and lots of outputs but very little outcome. Did the layoff impact some really good employees, I doubt it this time.
@dk No, it's a bullsh-t company.
@fk Well said. But, thank goodness we have Super-Engineer to guide everyone on the proper way to feel and act and how to kowtow to management. He knows who should leave and who should go. That’s handy. But his toddler temper tantrums must have reached the Layoff’s powers that be since they scrubbed his infantile rants. That’s a shame because he was fun to tweak and will be even more fun to watch when he is shown the door.
@ew That's hilarious. Asking for a package backfires. And as for the GTFO, it appears many are trying. You clearly have not experienced the turmoil many people on here have endured. If you are a TD employee who is protected, kudos to you. Most of us are not. Yes many of us are overly-committed, excellent employees with superior reviews but we have been placed in impossible situations. The leadership decisions and strategic directions can break even the best MVP.
Stop being a brat and calling people pathetic. Time for your own self reflection, friend. if you are a TD employee, try an attitude adjustment so you don't bleed your negativity onto the rest of those struggling.
If you're unhappy here ask your manager for a package and GTFO. Stop whining on an online forum, you're an adult with a college education get your act together. You're pathetic
@dk No, but it's trying to become one. Its HQ is in California but it's a ghost town.
@df Is Teradata an Indian company? Asking for a friend.
After last year’s re‑org, which moved the teams I supported under a manager in India - and this year’s only interactions were three brief meetings about time‑card compliance, in hindsight, it was hard to miss the message about where my role stood.
The new world order wants you to eat, sleep, and breathe their agenda.
Which could have a microscopic chance of working if their agenda made any fu--ing sense, which it does not. It's the blind leading the blind in this place and the blind at the front berate their followers for a lack of vision.
I think the contrary the layoffs drained the swamp
@bd THIS worries me the most and NO ONE is talking about it. TDC has a lot of knowledgeable employees, but they’re becoming fewer by the day. Good luck to those working here in 5 years. AI is not going to solve this sh-t.
Getting laid off is the best thing that ever happened to me in this company. They made me feel like a failure for so long...Now, it's over, and I'm starting to feel confident again.
Fundamentally Teradata does not know how to motivate people. Promoting good employeess then laying them off months later because they earn too much, which leadership caused, is not motivation. You'd be crazy to take a promotion here unless you specifically want to be invited to a 15 min HR meeting.
The "new" leadership will not give you a pat on the back for being excellent in your role. That's free motivation that could go a long way to productivity, but that is not their way. Beat you down and fear is their way. You don't get affirmation for doin your job, even if you go above and beyond.
The new world order wants you to eat, sleep, and breathe their agenda. If you find flaws in their mindset, do not - and I repeat- do not engage. It will not be well received. Do not challenge the head of the snake. Will that make TDC better? No. But opinions are no longer valued. Put on a flashy demo and be prepared to be ripped to shreds, then commute home feeling defeated with nothing left to give. Inspiration and motivation depleted. New way of working.
Good luck to those still there.
Layoffs always include good people. They have not figured out that they cannot lay off employees to profitability.
And just wait until the VSP hits. A lot of institutional knowledge is going out the door.
