Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Why even wait 10/11 days?

Clearly they already know who is staying or going. What is the point of announcing this now? I’d be fine with receiving the Amplify news and then receiving the “fate email” later today or tomorrow. But now we’re faced with 8-9 business days of faking morale, if you’re even able to fake it. They’ve already said there will be at least 60 days notice, so what the he-l.

It’s like they WANT to destroy our mental health. Or they’re trying pi-s us all off so much that they think we’ll decline the role changes and get no severance.

@b8 if you didn’t already have one lined up, you typically don’t. Unless you know someone, and they reach out to you, it’s probably over. Re-hires do happen from time to time, but don’t expect it to be widespread.

They’re getting rid of people for a reason. It’s not in their interest to try to help you not get terminated. Doesn’t mean you are bad employee (maybe you are, maybe you aren’t). Typically individual leaders try to find ways to keep people they want to keep. Lesser roles on other teams that have an opening, etc.

Works best if you have good relationships and connections internally. But if you did, there’s a lower chance you get a letter to begin with (but not always).

Hope this helps. I know it’s not what you want to hear, but it’s typically how it goes with these things. Enterprise went through this a few years ago. Ended up rehiring some people later on once they recovered.

@b8 I’m just telling you how other companies do it. It’s called “garden leave”. Terminated employees are a liability, because they are more likely to retaliate / leak sensitive data. Better to just immediately cut access and part ways.

If you get a letter, expect to lose access shortly after.

@bd they could implement a non-working notice and you will be cut off from evening in 30 min. The good news is you'll get paid for those 60 days for doing nothing. But don't start another job within those 60 days or you'll lose severance.

@av I think they will only cut access for certain tasks and functions. Most of us will be expecting to continue our roles with the threat of losing our severance if we don’t comply. There will be a lot of quiet quitting, but there will be expectations.

@av - if they cut off access, how can you look for and apply to other internal roles? From what I understand, many roles will be posted internally only.

@av well they had said 2 weeks for every year of service for ISP when comparing to VSP. And prorated time for say 1/2 a year (7.5 years for example).

@ak no. There is a process they have to follow. Have to notify government and employees, etc. That should go out shortly before the notices or on the same day.

Typically, you’ll receive a notice saying your employment will be terminated in 60 days unless you find another job internally. You’ll continue to be employed during that time, but they’ll cut all access, and you will do no work. You will continue to be paid and receive benefits. If there is a severance, it’s typically something like one week for every year served. You typically cannot take another job during the 2 months you are still “employed” or else you forfeit the severance.

I’m not saying that’s what will happen here. This is just how these typically go in other companies.

As far as WARN I wonder if they will say they notified us back in March. Who knows who swift they will let people go.

@a2 very good point. I hadn’t thought about that.

Well at least we all know we have until October, if that’s any beacon of light.

60 days notice is legally required due to the WARN act. I’m sure the date they shared coincides with that.
