I find it unbelievable how many VP's Optum has. One thing I learned was that when Optum acquires a company they assign them a title based on the money that they made in their last company. Hence, so many people having titles that significantly outrun their skills. Optum's VP's are a great example.

@bc same experience in MnR tech team. We have the worst zero ethics/ no manners VP leading a large team. He is very obnoxious and loud , not sure if it's cultural (he's an cranky old Indian man) but he thinks he is BOSS and everybody under him needs to do anything he asks, whether it makes sense or not. ..and everything is urgent and NOBODY in his team likes him but somehow here is ..VP and dictator.
@ff leading my a-s. My VP n Sr. Dir lead sh-t. They do nothing except steal other's work n claim credit.
Wild to me how many CEOs Optum has too! Like when they acquire a new company and now there’s a CEO like 8 levels below the actual CEO.
Them responsible AI vps are tweakin. Last one ghosted n new one ain’t doin a damn thing.
What do y’all think about the VPs in the behavioral health area?
They need to let go of all the SVP's, VP's, Senior Directors, and Directors who don't have direct reports. People at that level should be leading and mentoring people. If they aren't, why do we need them?
I know 2 VP is. Both behave shockingly similar. My new VP is trash. All he does is talk loudly and threaten his subordinates and vendors the consequences they will face if anything he wants is not done immediately. After submitting what he wants, that's it, you won't hear back and he's on his next case. He and his FTE directors have not delivered one tangible product that's in production the last several years. Somehow they are still here raking in bonus and RSU. Almost makes me want to support layoff. Sad. I have not seen one VP that's not a je-k, though most act really nice in front of you but stab you in the back.
I think we have so many VPs because the C-Suite is afraid to talk to any level below that.
If they did, they might accidentally hear the truth and melt.
I agree they have a lot of VPs, but Optum does downgrade titles through M&A as another posted below.
They down-leveled most of my company when we were acquired. Slashed bonus percentages, too.
:) UHC has an unusually large number of VPs; it’s hard to understand what many of them actually do or why those roles command such high compensation. A lot of them seem more focused on hierarchy and attitude than on meaningful contribution
