Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

Is Paramount actually Lumon from Severance?

Just read this... it's giving "waffle party" energy from severance. They really think going out for coffee is going to make us ok with going in five days per week? Do they think we're stupid?

Managers who encounter resistance to RTO should help their team bond by inviting them "out for a coffee or lunch, or hold a team-building activity," Paramount said in an "RTO People Leader Toolkit" obtained by Business Insider.

Bosses who can't think of a way to unite their team can turn to AI, the document said: "You can also prompt Microsoft Copilot: give me examples of team-building activities."

"Strong relationships build trust, help people feel part of a community, and enhance well-being," the document said.

@et completely agreed. I’m not allowed to take a lunch at the same time as my co-worker either for “workflow purposes”. My department gets discouraged for talking loudly or god forbid laugh and whisper. Sit in your cubicle and shut up and let the big dogs roam free. It literally feels like a godda-n boarding school.

@ra Its coming from the same budget that the bagels, pastries, hot chocolates, coffees, neck massages and international snack cart they gave us the first couple of weeks came from.

And who is going to pay for that coffee and lunch? Because expensing it definitely won’t be approved.

@ba I used to get so much pressure from my supervisors when there was a "team outing" (usually a gathering where they hired a DJ to play music that I hated at a volume that my tinnitus couldn't bear), or when I opted not to attend the cringey "surprise" birthday gatherings in the conference room.

"Sorry, I have actual work to do during the work day, and an actual personal life outside of the hours I'm paid for."

My morale wasn't based on cake or co-ktails, it was based on whether the work I was assigned felt fulfilling and whether the execs I served treated me and my work with even a hint of respect.

LOL. If my boss asked me for coffee i'd laugh at how transparent it would be. No one in my department even does lunch. And heaven forbid a vendor invites anyone to an event after 3pm, which is always met with a hard no. So happy hours need not apply. Socially this company is completely lame, which makes RTO all the more isolating.

The power of coffee is strong at this company…

The only thing worst than unnecessarily being in an office is forced “fun time” with people you spend all day with.

While art isn’t going to make it life changing, it’s certainly better than blank walls. I’d settle for some posters from after 2004.

Well, there are high-level execs in New York who think that not having art on the walls is a big reason people aren’t happy about RTO, so honestly nothing would surprise me. I was told I would have to jump through so many hoops to get approval to expense coffee with a direct report that I just gave up on that idea.
