Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Future RTO plans

I just saw this on a BSL community within Viva Engage posted on 10/23:

Mandate Zip Code Questions:
• The 30-minute commute time that determines RTO eligibility was developed using peak commute time hours/days of the week by zip code.
• Currently, RTO is only impacting the audiences below in the Twin Cities and
Washington DC:
• All hybrid employees assigned to EPC (Eden Prairie Campus), HCL (Health Care
Lane) and DC (655 New York Ave)
• All telecommuters within a 30-minute commute time of EPC/HCL/DC
• Future RTO waves or mandates (other cities or populations) are still under review at this time.
• If you were not on the distribution list for RTO and did not receive a communication, then you are exempt from RTO at this time. If you are confused about whether you are impacted, please reach out to your manager.

@gt yeah, I guess maybe some of them hadn't looked in awhile and got new ones? I saw the same thing and tbh I hadn't looked at that page in ages and had never scrolled down either

@dt thanks! I do see BSL’s listed but they are the ones I have had listed under me since I started in this role.

I kept saying "BDSLs", not sure why I said that, twice lol. I meant BSLs/Business Segment Liaison

RTO everywhere else is tough when they have closed a lot of facilities.

All of you who don’t know, we did this pattern when SteveH and LarryR were in charge. Being remote is a target once core employees were RIFed. Common tactic to reduce non essential remote workforce. Once this round tomorrow, ask to switch to RTO to be off remote RIF list. Once done go back remote. It’s silly but that how cookie crumbles. Good luck all. Crazy times in the world.

@b6 You can still see, just click you profile on that same page as the alerts, then once on your page, scroll down to the very bottom and see if one or two BDSLs have been assigned to you

@a8 lol if you really think people will move for this job you are very off of reality

@b8, it wasn’t as big a remote workforce back then but it was typically a way to attrition our acquisition employees.

“Well yeah we bought your business in Phoenix but you need to move to the dark tundra to keep your job.”

Was very common in 00s-10s

@b8 has he done this before? Please explain I’m new to Steve as CEO

until they pull the ol "move close to an office or we consider you resigning"

Steve has done it before. No reason to doubt he’d do it again.

@ax oh dang, I must have missed that. I saw the alert but once I clicked on it, it disappeared from my alerts and I didn’t catch the name 🥲

Rumor is they will be expanding the radius to the existing RTO campus mandates in January and also included offices in other states

@OP I saw that as well. A lot of people have mentioned that all of a sudden they were seeing on their My Alerts on the Sparq home page when they logged in over the last several weeks, alerts that they were assigned a BDSL. Most are telecommuters but not part of RTO, so they feel like they are being targeted for the next wave

@a2 - so do I but the d-mb zip code logic got me anyways because my zip is tied to a less rural area

So far it seems you can just be a good ole boy on campus. Not do any real work. Just talk to a few L31+ during the day. Keep the job forever.

If you wanna coast and do very little at all, drive in!
