Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

EWC

Last week Verizon held a meeting with employee representatives of the European Works Council
Does anyone have any information about what was discussed?
So far no details have been released about what happened

@g7 don't for that lease contracts aren't carved in stone, they can be terminated with a notice.

Oh, Dan the Man approved it while on the board? Yea, he has such a strong spine to sign off everything Hans was doing and then blame the poor results on him, Sampath, Debika and who else (I guess Kyle and Sam are next), fire 15k employees and cash in his bonus for inflating the stock price with buybacks while incuring more debt to do so.

I have no sympathy for Hans and the "DEI SVPs" but it's id--tic to pretend that Dan didn't know or couldn't do anything while he was overseeing it since 2018...

@vp Just small stuff right, all just under the level in each country where consultation is legally required.

Like another poster said, it just takes longer for things to happen over here because we have more rights.

My view is they're maintaining stablility hoping for a joint venture

@be BS, 28 from VZC, more from Limerick and Enterprise took a hit as well. So I don't know where you get your information but it is very wrong!

@g3 this is true. However the layoffs pretty much touched sales. The wheels were in motion on these pre Dan the Man. Aka we’re already happening.. takes months in some European countries, with works councils and so forth…
Then the French works council sued verizon, and I believe won..
Then VZ seems to have gone slow on countries that were still work in progress…

Then came along Dan… so will probably touch all groups… not just the Sales lay offs that were already happening..

Obviously needs to go back to national works councils and the EWC…

As far as original post OP- so national works councils and the EWC, by law are supposed to advise all employee of meeting agendas about 5 days before meeting… and then post a summary of outcomes, etc.. normally quarterly… personally in the country I am in, haven’t seen one for a few quarters…
So I guess if you wanted to know, you would just have to ask, as depending on country it’s generally a legal requirement around transparency…

@e3 don’t forget they signed a 15 year lease 2 years ago for that building which only kicked in last year. Also don’t forget Dan the man signed off on that alongside other board members. They have a commitment to fill with the IDA in Ireland.

@ba A half empty brand new COE is seen as an expensive cost centre to Alfonso and Dan the Hatchet man. Something that should be axed and made more efficient with AI and post-it notes. They seem to be very US centric and didn't share anything about their plans with International

@ba I'm curious what makes you think that Ireland is somehow special for Verizon now? recent investments under the old guard? there were other CoE's in Europe, cheaper and well performing

@b9 in NovemberDecember 2025 EMEA had practically no layoffs…you don’t know what you’re talking about

Something about the EMEA All Hands didn’t ring true…more of the same? I don’t think so. Anyone who thinks it’s more of the same in 2926 is delusional

@ba Limerick supports Verizon globally right? It’s not anything specific to do with Verizon International

@b6 Verizon invested heavily in Limerick only recently. Brand New COE and only have around 250 employees in that building and promised IDA Ireland 400 jobs by end of 2026. More jobs going there most definitely. Just hired a European based Dublin SVP of sourcing and supplying chain.

@b7 not true, there have been continuous layoffs , I have been made redundant too and i'm still looking for a job after more than 1 year of intensive search.

friends of friends of friends and associate directors ... keeps on firing senior contributors or senior managers in their teams while they stay on the payroll .... disgusting.

who can explain why talent hr people are still on the payroll ? there are zero job openings in international ....

@a3 they fired entire teams in the us already to bring roles to Ireland .....

20 to 30% of roles will disappear, some opcos closed.
part of the shift from legacy to whatever that brings more profit.

will cost a bit of $$$ but who cares ? the cy pays 20M to Hans for nothing, and Sampath got his new condo in aspen paid too

while you worked hard, the board got salary increases and laid off thousands.

That legal case (Charpentier Vs Verizon; Mr. Charpentier is the Chair of the EWC for Verizon) can be blocking a major RIF in Europe.

"In a significant November 2025 development, Jean-Philippe Charpentier, representing the Verizon EWC, won a major High Court case in Ireland that overturned previous Labour Court rulings favoring Verizon management."

There was also a major reform to the EWC Directive effective from 31 December 2025 which Verizon legal needs to follow.

So I'm keen to find out what EWC discussed last week.

They were sued in November by EWC. They are just getting their sh-t in order to prevent that from happening again.
