Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Any speculation on what happens to Consumer Products & Experiences / International (PK’s current domain)?

Skydance uses IMG for merchandising. Ari owns IMG and helped get Skydance time with Trump at UFC. Just saying...

If they decide to bundle streaming with another studio they might do the same thing with other parts of the company

I believe this is one of the areas that will actually survive in the new regime. There are hundreds of existing contractual relationships (both short term and long term) with numerous licensees and other huge corporate partners and SD would face numerous lawsuits (not to say a huge PR nightmare) if they did not support these agreements. Yes, they could scale back the size of the team but you still need an internal team of scale to support the partners. An outside company does not have the bandwidth to support a biz of this scale unless they want to hire many, many people.

@ba youre absolutely right, but if it turns out that the acquisition is all about the paramount studio you can’t assume they will care about merch. Most of the merch is Nick and they may not be as precious about it as Disney. Merch revenue is going down for everyone so like with the linear business there may need to be big cost cutting. Hope that’s not the case

There is a big reason why companies like Disney, Warner, Universal, Sony , etc. all handle internally and don’t farm this out to agencies. Financials are one part of it, but there is so much work and coordination and planning that goes into this part of the business. Just saying.

@b7 like someone said, they have a head of cp. are they just going to fire that person or have him report to pk? Seems unlikely. He’s either gonna run the thing or manage some agency they hire to run the brands (think of the savings on employee salaries bonuses 401k)

Remember when she flew to Bali for speaking engagements… that must have been a 50k trip. I don’t think Skydance will put up with her lack of biz acumen and spending habits. Haha

Our biggest ip we share with spin master, have them run it, we collect check.

The ip we own, Pk and team have sat on it and done nothing,.

Sb and tmnt is dwindling business and could easily be handled by skeleton crew.

Skydance has a head of cp who is very well connected in their ecosystem and Disney. I really think it’s time for PK to go, she is a fantastic marketer for herself, but definitely not a business person and with her in charge paramount cp is now 11, behind all entertainment companies including Pokémon, Sanrio, etc. sad. If you want a viable business, change her out bring in new regime.

I hear what you’re saying but not sure it’s as simple as that. The whole CP area brings in well over $250MM in annual revenues and is extremely profitable for the company. Very high margins. Plus, from what I’ve read, Ellison is all about exploiting franchises which is what this division does. And this is not an area that overlaps with Skydance. But on the other hand, who knows? Just thought some internal people might have some knowledge / insights. Praying for us all.

Not sure if this is what the other reply was about but possible they save money by outsourcing most of that work to an agency to do the sales, finance, contracts. Just need to keep someone around for approvals. They don’t own any parks or make anything themselves. They might also just sell some kids brands they don’t need if the price is right (avatar to Netflix?)

Probably shriveled into nothing but a sparsely staffed licensing agency; just leasing brands and images out in similar fashion to the Trump Org.
