@he I'm certain it's sarcasm, but you are not wrong that some SEG or SEG-potential person could have written it. It's so easy for those SEG and SEG-potential people to go on and on about how great Shell is. Yeah, it's really great for you. It's the middle managers trying to sell your BS to the front-line workers with no chance of ever becoming SEG and the front-line workers who know how to do things right but never get the chance because everyone above them wants to kiss the SEG-potential and SEG that are miserable.

@b7 insightful. The great thing about the oil patch is that there are still plenty of people who are legit business people in the industry and many people who are legit oil field in the industry. The industry was built by real men digging holes and taking risks and that was awesome…pi---d off all the elites of the day. They were and still are not classist, libby DEI types, politicians and fakes. But these real deals are not at the majors anymore .that went out along time ago.

I don't necessarily believe that this is sarcasm. The folks who are labeled "SEG potential" are often treated so markedly different from the rest of us that it could be their real viewpoint . Imagine that you had a senior leader (VP or higher) assigned to you to regularly chat with you to help you and advise you. And you're advised and directed to promotions every 18 months. You're given the best assignments. You are given frequent international travel and exposure, and you routinely tour Shell facilities and are given VIP treatment at every stop. People present their ideas to you, want to impress you, and routinely help you to succeed. Plus of course you get really -really well paid!

That's what they do for people with " SEG potential". It'd be hard for a person with those experiences to not have those viewpoints stated by the original poster.

@b7, I found your analogy very true when it come to the we-ponization of the class system that is plaguing the company moral long term. After a while you realize you are fighting to climb up that ladder instead of trying to improve/innovate/fight against the external conditions etc. Is this a typical commonwealth cultural identity problem I have no idea, wonder what the real comonwealth citizens here think about.

Easy enough for my brain it invert your overt sarcasm. This place is starting to make a lot of sense to me after 15 years when viewed through the lens of a class system - those in first class experience privileges on the backs of the work of all other classes, but 2nd and 3rd class citizens mimic messaging and behavior in the hopes of changing their lot in life and being invited into the next higher tier. Guess it works the same in every business and country and social system, but the Brits (and descendants of the commonwealth countries) are real experts in we-ponizing it to their advantage. A thousand years of practice, I guess. At least our leadership is second to none in that regard.

Good for you! You must be in a very lucky position. I don't think anybody would want to take that away from you; but, I do think that we'd all like to enjoy similar conditions. Sadly, where I am in Shell I do not feel I can say the same.
