Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

vote NO!

Again we are being promised another “cost of living adjustment” at the end of the contract. Healthcare is going up. Inflation is on par with the raises so basically we are left with nothing but what we started with. Can someone explain to me why I pay dues to this union? I would’ve been better off negotiating for myself

I’m a YES. I don’t know what more you think you’re going to get. Please, let us know what you think we should be going on strike for?

@qz absolutely, do the " no's" have any idea what is going on in the real world? Take this deal and appreciate it! We are on the brink of world war 3, the economy and the stock market are going to tank, inflation will soon be out of control. This is not going to be easy times for a good long time! Take it so we can live together fight another day!

Voting yes for sure. The current agreement goes bye bye if it's voted down and the givebacks that hadn't been on the table will be back on. There's no givebacks and only gains! Vote Yes!!

Fat Cats that bargained for us are having contract explanation meetings next week.
This is going to be hilarious! People are rightfully mad. Everyone will finally see where their union dues are going and see that the people negotiating for us do not have the intelligence to negotiate with VZ’s Lawyers. Don’t forget, we pay them. They work for us! They’re not on a VZ salary. They’re are paid by us through our dues.

Union leadership wants to keep our dues, they don't give a rats a-s about members.

@a7 You aren’t wrong the older guys want you to vote yes because they don’t want go through another strike and they’re happy with what they have. And the union wants you to vote yes because if we go on strike, they’ll have to pay out straight fund and they want to keep that money for themselves…But I’ll tell you what I told the younger guys that came into our garage if you live in the northeast under all this Democrat rule and you haven’t dared to leave that’s on you. There’s a lot of work out there down south where you can make more money than you can here at Verizon (you may actually have to work for it) and make your own way and don’t depend on the union or the government.

The new hires did get sc--wed but make no mistake it was the union that sold you out not the members. The union sold you out because they didn’t want to pay the membership the strike fund. If we don’t go on strike I will give you three guesses on who gets to keep the money and the first two don’t count.

@bj. 100k a year was good 10 years ago. 100k now isn’t the same. It’s not our fault that other companies in our industry pay less than what we make. You are acting like we are over paid but do u think that maybe the others are underpaid?
I bet if u ask them, they’ll tell you.
Or maybe you’ll just tell them to shut up too.

I'm a post 12 hire and I'm definitely voting yes. At then end of 4 years I'll be making around $20,000 more 'base salary' and only paying about $800 more in healthcare for my whole family. I definitely do not for see my annual expenses increasing by 19,000 between now and then even with inflation.

The writing is on the wall for the stock together disappearing. The fact that we secured that money as a permanent bonus and are getting an additional 1100 on top of that is great and opens a window into continual increases for that money in future contracts. Just don't be stupid and defer the money into your 401k. That 4300 over a normal 30 year career that will end up being around 250k with compounding interest on the investment. It's not a pension but it's a start and I'm sorry but I don't see us ever getting the pension back. When I was hired I didn't even know these old timers had a pension I was just happy with the salary benefits I was being offered.

In 4 years when we hopefully have a friendly administration in the White House and the NLRB has been strengthened again I'd be more willing to make a fight for further enchantments to some of the priorities everyone has mentioned here, but right now it doesn't feel like the time. Don't get me wrong if the fight comes I'll stand with my brothers and sisters and take it on, but as it's stands right now I'm pretty happy with what's on the table.

@bh. Well said. I removed myself from the CWA PAC fund years ago. Once I realized their politics and where our dues were going, I cancelled that immediately! Can’t believe they sponsored the bs No Kings protest. Ordering shirts off the website will not have the CWA badge on it. Don’t want the public to think I’m associated with their political views.

Brother…. Top pay will be over 100k a year and that isn’t enough for you? You seriously need to learn how to spend your money. Invest your money wisely. There’s people in similar industries that are non union and make half of what we do. techs, field and non field, start at $20 an hour for these companies. Stop being greedy and shut up.

@be that’s what su-ks about being in the union isn’t it being surrounded by a bunch of liberals that bend the knee to the Union and take whatever they give!! Just like they worship communist/socialist government because they can’t do anything. They need the government to make sure they’re provided for.

I’ve got news for the new hires. You’ve been fooled by the union saying there’s no chance of you getting a Pention out there. My son has left two jobs that had pensions included and he pays $30 a month for healthcare, including dental and eye care and just started a third job that has a Pention healthcare including eye and dental. The union tells you that’s not available to them if they go somewhere else some work, but that’s absolutely not true. Increasing his pay with every change of his job.

You could vote out CWA and vote in the Teamsters union. They got the drivers for UPS 170,000 a year and if you file 3 grievances a year and win, you’re on double time every minute that you work. If you get skipped on the overtime list with Verizon, our Union is so strong the only thing that happens is management says sorry won’t do it again… Till next time

One if you love the Union like that it’s probably because you aren’t a worker and two if you actually did work, you would make more money than you are now. You need the protection because you’re worthless. If you could actually do something, you would hit the market and see how much more you could make.
But people who can’t need protection of the government and the union

3% might be the cost now but how about the 19% it went up under Biden and we only got 6%
Were is the other 14 %
If you are a worker the union isn’t for you
But the lazy, worthless people that need them
….I read on here a few months ago we could vote in the teamsters union and vote out CWA let’s do that

I can't afford about what happens in the future, unfortunately. So I will take what I can get and appreciate it. At least im working and make a lot more than the average person. I will hopefully live to fight another day.

So when this passes through, how do we demand to see proof of the votes? I have never seen proof of all the previous extensions. Also, even if they show us the numbers, can it be trusted? Everything is mail in.

@af. I agree that the newer members will not see a pension and that is unfortunate. I would’ve hoped to see a better increase in their 401k to at least get them closer to us that have pensions. Keep in mind, when we are retired, they are the ones voting for us.
I would’ve also hoped to see higher wage increases as the cost of living over the past years has skyrocketed and our extensions are not keeping up with the 3% raises. Especially after adding in the health contributions.
I get it, we let them in the door back in 2012 and these contributions are not going away but they can at least give us higher raises to offset it.
Also, anyone hired after Aug 3rd 2008 is now capped at 20 years instead of 25 for retiree healthcare. Furthermore, no ratification bonus? Did I miss that?

We pay a lot of money to have people negotiate for us. In a sense, they’re kind of like our attorneys. With this offer, I will say NO and expect my attorney to get back to the table.

Never take the first deal a car salesman gives you.

Is this acceptable for you? Yes or no question. No need to explain.
