Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Site Closures

Why is Intel selling off the smaller sites and letting go of the expertise after spending so much money to acquire them?

Did Intel just want the patents?

How much of a loss are they taking in the sales and closures of these sites?

@ap ... some small sites are the results of acquisitions. This is where the patents come from. With your logic I would guess that you are positioned squarely in the layoff group.

@b6 Halloween Farms is doing just fine, thank you very much. Pumpkin season is looking like it’ll be a real banger this year.

They couldn't even close Hawthorn Farms for goodness sakes.

Forget about closing any larger campus till they sell HF.

Company says a lot of things, and occasionally something actually happens.

Like listening to the CEO of NVDA.

Close Chandler now! A wasteland of extra space filled by clueless middle managers.

Obviously an ignorant troll post.

Sites don't have patents.

Selling off real estate sites is not the same thing as selling non-core businesses and patents are not relevant to either decision.

Long ago I worked in retail. The store manager had a huge sale and I asked him why were were selling items for so much more than we'd paid...wouldn't that lose us money? He explained that the money we'd spent to buy the items was already gone, and the worst thing to do was let them sit in the warehouse when they could recoup at least some money from them. I never forgot that lesson. What's done is done. The money Intel spent isn't coming back. You don't make a bad decision to try to make up for a previous bad decision.

The money that was spent on acquiring these small sites has already been spent continuing to spend more on them is a waste. All of the small sites and and projects are a huge financial drain. Decisions need to be made to cut back to just a core business that can be profitable. Sorry if you are working at a small site or project that gets cut. Good performers who are working on the wrong projects are going to get let go. This round of cuts isn't likely to be precision trimming it will be amputations. Future cuts will be more precise and mostly based on performance.
