Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Manager constantly making false promises

I’m exhausted from hearing the same promises over and over again about backfilling positions that never actually get filled. We’re overloaded, the work keeps piling up, and every month we’re told help is coming, but it never does. Add in the empty promotion talk, and it’s getting harder to stay quiet.

When you hear that you are an good asset for the company: run. At the end asset is a thing!

@OP Rule of thumb: never believe what a manager tells you.

@b5 You’re part of the problem. Also, pipe down.

You guys have managers that talk to you?

couple that with: average raises are actually a cost savings for the company when adjusted for inflation. Unless you are O or E on the higher side of salary adjustment, you are actually accepting a pay-cut as a thank you so that the guy that fills his schedule with 1:1s gets the real raise.... and even THAT guy doesn't realize he's first in line to get his head cut later (think LCS).

@b5 they should be more transparent then and not make promises they can’t deliver

Ever thought that the manager doesn't have much control over this? Resources and hiring come from layers further above and have to get negotiated with other layers. And it's flat out hard to hire these days. Managers are getting stretched thin just the same. They are employees too.
