Thread regarding IBM layoffs

RA’d people how are you doing today ?

I didn’t get that much sleep . I felt sick this morning

But now I feel relieved . No longer having to worry is this the day ?

I’m almost 100% sure more RA’s in February

I was really Angry at Alvind and his Pipmunks but I really don’t care about them now

They have no concern about us.

But back to us whose last day was today I hope you are all well and that there are better opportunities out there

You deserve better

LinkedIn is a giant cesspool. It's becoming facebook
Political posts, Doom and gloom posts by people who sound like they are spiraling out of control.

Shady recruiters. Pre packaged corporate buzzwords and unmotivating people.

@19f yes many remaing IBM "managers" are bullies who are numb from the RA's over 40 years, and too often promoted based on WOKE traits and not skills or experience. Age, s-x, skin color , race etc. DO FILE DAY 1 for unemployment. You will be surprised how easy it is after you file the first time. Then usually you have to log in weekly and document what you did during the week to look for a job. JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!

@19f The reason for the late RA was by design, after the survey and as well as to minimize any traction on IBMers posting for the very little US internal positions open, since they knew at a week would be lost to the Thanksgiving holiday, so that really only left 3 weeks and given the usual slowness that all but guaranteed that only a small small 0.001% would actually be able to get an internal job transfer and escape the RA.

I also had bully manager, glad to be gone but very bad timing to get let go in December. Almost impossible to get hired before year-end due to holidays. Thought I would be go in January that is when they normally did RA's that I had witnessed for many years. Didn't think they would do RA's this late in Q4. Probably will need to file for unemployment doubt I will have new job anytime soon.

While working at IBM, I witnessed many instances where senior engineers, STSM,s DEs engineers refused to do any development work (design, implement, ...). Their days were spent making charts, sitting in meeting .... (no value added). They were good at bullying, lying and brown nosing ... .
I also worked with some that did a great job at the engineering work, these were the first to go on the RA list under the excuse, they were too expensive.

At least I am glad that people are starting to realize how LAZY many of the people at IBM were. Most of these people were in leadership and management, but some were tenured employees too. Absolute wastes of space that had no talent and always needed to siphon off the hard work of underlings.

@dt it's called the IBM India Way !

Whoever follows those inconvenient things called IBM Business Conduct Guidelines (BCGs) is an outright fool. Honesty does not pay off where dishonest Indians are concerned or involved. That is why the inconvenient article about H1B visa fraud (MSN article) from India was removed from this site yesterday.

Peace.

Truth be told, this is about the only way you move up at IBM these days. Nepotism, cronyism, cast system, buddy-buddy deals, and straight-up favoritism are runnin’ wild, even with all them ethics courses and “best practices” trainings they make us sit through. Heck, it’s gotten so obvious now they don’t even bother pretendin’ it ain’t happenin’ anymore.

@az This is so true! I was in the 2024 rounds and let me tell you there is life after. I am making more money, getting real bonuses and not that shameful bonus or whatever it’s called that IBM did. Most importantly I have work life balance. My PTSD has made it a little hard to accept the support I get from managers and executives. There are people who really want you to be successful. Things can only go up from here. Just play up those IBM skills on your resume and interviews. If you can survive IBM you can make it anywhere and through anything.

@OP I feel great! Seriously! When the thing that you fear the most finally happens, there's nothing left to fear. I am looking forward to a future that's free of the toxic, dysfunctional, executive-bloated company that is IBM.
Wishing all my 12/4 RAers all the best. Take a breath and go live life!

@an I wonder if you were in Q2C because that’s where they all are hiding. Niels and Radovan are the worst and IBM should be sued for keeping them around. If the people who have left over the last couple of years got together I bet there could be a strong lawsuit for some of the things they have done.

My Ex Manager called me again
WTF is wrong with her ?

I told her in a respectful way
I no longer report to you
You either need to ask someone else
Or you need to figure it out

Good luck to everyone affected; when the shock wears off you will probably end up better off than us “survivors”. As a relative newcomer, I had not realized that we are not supposed to even speak of the ones who were RA’d, nor even acknowledge that a RA occurred — just “so and so is no longer here”, not “IBM knowingly laid off someone with unique, necessary skills, and our ability to deliver on our commitments was adversely affected.” It’s just some mysterious thing that happened.. ick. Wishing the best for you all.

@aq
The past is a ghost, a fading trace,
A memory held in a different space.
For it’s the future, the unwritten page,
That calls us forward, stage by stage.
Don’t look back to what’s been done,
Your path is ahead, your course is spun.
Each day is new, a fresh start to be,
A chance to live, to learn, to be free.
Let yesterday's burdens be shed like a skin,
For what is ahead is where you begin.
With every step, you carry your truth,
A wisdom gained in your vibrant youth.
So onward press, with your head held high,
Toward the horizon, toward the sky.
Don't look back to what you can't reclaim,
Look forward to what the future has in frame.

About an hour ago my now ex FLM called me asking for where some files were on the shared directory .

I told her. Sorry but that’s not my problem. I wasn’t disrespectful but the nerve of her.

@a2, You do not have to hide it. You should not feel ashamed. You seem to have a good plan, IBM bad habits did not seem to have affected you. Working at IBM can teach dishonesty and laziness.

The experience is different for each person targeted with the layoff. Today was the last day for some fine IBM old timers. IBM management has no decency. The last manager, I had at IBM, is a useless piece of s**t. He is a white racist, hiding his incompetence under racism and bullying.

@OP All this will pass in time.

Just remember not to buy ANY IBM products or services where the future takes you. This evil company needs go under with all the corrupt management, just like the Titanic.

I have not told my family yet. I thought as someone who did everything right, Did over 100 hours of education this year and learned a bunch of new skills, I would be safe.

After the new year, I am going to learn to become an electrician. Thankfully I am only 25 and I can get into the IBEW once I complete my apprenticeship
